Some stats courtesy Sampath:

Neil Brand - only the third man to take a five-for on Test debut while captaining the team.

Neil Brand is the first South African spinner to take a six-for on Test debut.

4.19pm Righto, Neil Brand finishes with 6 for 119 on debut. Not something he would have thought, but he will take it with both hands. But this innings has been all about Rachin Ravindra, who smashed 240, his maiden Test hundred, in just his seventh innings. That has helped New Zealand amass 511. Kane Williamson fell for 118 early on day two, but Ravindra held his own to first reach 150 and then cross 200 with a pat to covers. Glenn Phillips smashed 39, Daryl Mitchell 34 while Matt Henry crashed 27 off just nine balls. Apart from Brand, Ruan de Swardt also picked up two wickets. We'll be back for the South Africa innings in just a bit.

Brand to Southee, OUT, Six-for for Brand! What a performance by the South African captain. Keeps it wicket to wicket, Southee eyes a slog, misses and see his off pole pegged back. New Zealand are allout for 511.

3.41pm That was another session for New Zealand, but a lot more exciting with more runs, wickets and boundaries. It saw Rachin Ravindra's double-hundred as well in just his fourth Test (it's his maiden hundred), 145 runs in all in 27 overs at 5.37 an over and four wickets as well. What a player Ravindra is turning out to be. First that World Cup a few months ago and now excelling in the longest format with such class, technique and temperament. New Zealand 475 for 7, Ashish will find out with you after tea for how much longer they'll bat.
