2.21pm Lovely debut innings from Smith. He certainly looks the part at Test level. Showed he had the gears for all the situations he was presented with when he was out there. Ends up with 70 off 119 balls. England lead by exactly 250. Seales finishes with a four-wicket haul, and Motie with the big wickets of Stokes and Root. Those two were the standout performers for West Indies, who to their credit have done pretty well with the ball after being dealt the difficult hand of being bowled out for 121. Looks like they've taken an early tea break.

Sandy: ""What is the record for being Not out most number of times in Test.?"" -- Anderson is right on top of that list, by quite a margin.

Neil: "Can't believe Smith got out, denying Jimmy his century in the final innings!"

Jonny: "No No No no no no no no no... that can't be the way Anderson ends his batting career.... i hope WI get about 3 run lead and England open with Anderson now. "

Nayeem: "As James Anderson will possibly bat one final time, cricket fans around the world reflect on a storied career that has seen him conquer countless records. Known for his swing mastery and resilience, Anderson's contributions with the bat have often been overshadowed by his bowling brilliance. Today, we celebrate not just his unparalleled skill with the ball but his spirit and dedication to the game. Here's to a legend who has given his all for cricket."

Seales to Smith, OUT, gone, and Anderson ends up with 0*(0). Will he bat again in Test cricket? Doesn't look likely. Looks to back away and Seales follows him with a short ball at the hip. Swats it away, but can't quite clear the man diving low to his right at deep backward square leg

Seales to Smith, no run, length ball outside off, keeps low, manages to stab it towards backward point

Seales to Smith, FOUR, slower length ball wide of off stump, and Smith collects four runs with a miscued slog. Looks to slog-sweep over midwicket, ends up dragging it along the ground, into the gap between deep midwicket and deep backward square leg

Seales to Smith, no run, fullish, wide of off stump, carved to deep point

And here, to a suitably warm reception from both the crowd and the West Indies players, is James Anderson. Smith on strike though.

Seales to Smith, 1 run, OUT, up in the air, but this time he doesn't middle it. But the miscue doesn't carry to the deep either. But that doesn't matter, because Louis has sent Bashir back with a rocket direct hit. Fullish outside off, not full enough for a clean hit over the covers, especially since he was backing away to make room. Had to reach for the ball a bit. Goes high in the air, falls well short of deep point. They look for two to keep Smith on strike, only for Louis to produce a killer direct hit at the non-striker's end

Seales to Smith, SIX, and Smith has cleared all of them. Well, one of them, at deep midwicket. Back of a length, angling into the body, and he opens up at the hip and absolutely smashes it despite getting slightly cramped for room. Diagonal-bat baseball hit rather than the horizontal-bat pull

Seales continues. Slip, gully, and seven boundary riders.

Motie to Shoaib Bashir, no run, flat, pushed through quick into the stumps, goes right back and clips it backward of square. Had to bring his bat down in a hurry

Slip and short leg for Bashir.

Motie to Smith, 1 run, makes room to one turning from middle to off, and slaps to deep cover point. Does well, because it kept a bit low. Takes the single this time

Motie to Smith, no run, length ball on off stump, makes room and slaps to deep point

Motie returns after that one over from Shamar. Left-arm around. Slip in place.

steadzz: "People obsessed with referring to every english player as a 'bazball' batsmen might want to analyse Foakes' very poor winter with the bat before thinking the change was purely for style!"

Seales to Shoaib Bashir, no run, hello. Bashir looks to clear his front leg and slog one into the leg side now. Can't connect with the shortish ball outside off

Ilanin: "Maybe the correct way to really honour what Jimmy stands for would be for him to sign off with a DNB. " -- Or a 0* (0) following a protracted guard of honour into the crease.

Oh no. Shamar is walking off the field again. Hope it's just a minor issue, whatever it is.

S Joseph to Smith, SIX, not necessarily a Dravid shot, this. Steps out, exposes all his stumps, and Joseph tries to follow him with a shortish ball into the body. Doesn't quite manage to cramp him, though, and Smith wallops it high and a long, long way over square leg

kumar: "I thought Jamie Smith was a bazball batter, which is why he replaced Ben Foakes. He is batting more like a Dravid batter."
