Amer: "There you go Jimmy۔Just take 8 more next innings۔"

lunch: "Any further notes on the pitch since it was labelled docile at the start? Seemed like a lot on offer to the bowlers, movement throughout the innings through the air and off the deck. I wonder what the WI seamers can get out of it." There were a few balls that looked to lose a lot of pace after landing. But Atkinson absolutely bashed it into the pitch and moved it sideways.

Clarissa: "No need to worry about the follow-on!"

Tony: "That escalated quickly after lunch! Could be a 3 day test and Jimmy gets 2 days off"

2:52pm, innings break, day 1 Atkinson gets a generous round of applause as he walks back into the changing room. 7 for 45... lol. Unreal figures on debut. He was incisive in the morning too. Athanaze and Hodge were able to see him off in the morning but no one stood a chance on the cloudy afternoon in London. A seam-bowling masterclass in the 35th over where he took out Athanaze, Holder and Da Silva. Alzarri counter-attacked but Atkinson kept hitting a length and got him for good measure. Rather unfortunate not to finish with eight.

Duncan: "So, just like that, Atkinson has better test best bowling figures than Dale Steyn ever got! Crazy sport!"

Anderson to Seales, OUT, Anderson denies Atkinson an eight-for. It will need to pass the review though. Cuts off the cheers from the crowd momentarily. Ball was close to bat as Seales tried to punch it down the ground but it beat the inside edge and hit the bent back-leg (on the knee-roll) with middle stump visible. Hawk-Eye shows it landed around middle and would go on to hit middle and leg

Anderson to Seales, no run, Too much swing. 130ks full ball beat the flick. Anderson, Stokes confer with the keeper, who tells them not to review. Seales very late on that

Atkinson to Motie, FOUR, Sits up and Motie belts it through cover point. Should he have come at No. 6? Back of length outside off, too much room

Atkinson to S Joseph, OUT, SEVEN for Atkinson on debut, would you believe it?! This is a bizarre and pretty ugly dismissal. Joseph was looking to swipe this away over the leg side but slipped as he planted his front foot and edged up falling over as the ball flew away off the top edge of his bat. It looped up to backward point where Pope ran back to settle underneath it, and Atkinson can't quite believe what is happening

Atkinson to S Joseph, no run, plays all around an inswinger but only a stifled appeal as this was sliding past leg stump. Shamar shaped to whip his first ball through midwicket and got nowhere near it

Atkinson to AS Joseph, OUT, skied to mid-on, Atkinson has SIX! Joseph saw little point in hanging around and looked to smite Atkinson back over his head for another boundary, but his timing was off this time. A lofted straight drive but it loops up tantalisingly, and Woakes settles underneath it to pouch a straightforward catch
