Pakistan were a little wayward at the start of the session but then got it right and induced false shots, resulting in several batters holing out to fielders in the deep. Pakistan will be pleased with their effort; they have done well to contain the hosts on 318. Australia were clearly looking to score swiftly and batted with intensity this morning, and that high-risk approach may have contributed to the quick fall of wickets. Marnus Labuschagne top-scored with a gritty 63-run knock and battled it out today against a charged-up Pakistan pace attack. Shaheen Afridi, Mir Hamza and Hasan Ali picked two wickets apiece while Aamer Jamal snapped up three wickets and Salman Ali Agha got the wicket of David Warner yesterday at the stroke of lunch. Pakistan leaked a record 52 extras in this innings--something to address before they come out to bowl again. Oh, and credit to the fielders. There was a notable improvement in the field, with some sharp catches taken in the slips and in the outfield as well. Can Pakistan put up a defiant batting performance on this spicy pitch, which has plenty going on for fast bowlers? It will be interesting to see how Pakistan approaches it. Will they play their shots, consume way too many dots or find the right balance? Join Andrew McGlashan after the lunch break
