That concludes the action from the first match of the double header. Thank you for tuning in; please join Shashwat in the next double header game. Take care, and goodbye.
Glenn Maxwell: "I was really happy with it. I thought from where we were to scrape to anything above 150, I probably would have been really happy with and certainly had some indifferent thoughts about batting first, when we were four for in the Powerplay. Just really proud. I think that's the joy of having a long batting lineup, to be able to fight back from that position, build and give ourselves a platform to go at the end overs, Obus and Glenn did a great job to get us to that total, which we felt we were right in the game. And then it's over to the bowlers to execute. I think assessing the conditions probably a little bit quicker helps you get into that situation. When I went out there, I think between myself and Jack [Edwards], we talked about almost good one day batting and trying to take it as deep as possible, to have as many wickets at the back end, because we knew, I think going hard at the back end was going to be really difficult. So, to give ourselves a platform to then go from was really important at that stage. And unfortunately, I got out. But luckily enough, we had Glenn Phillips to fill that role, and he batted beautifully. Well, I think that's with the conditions. I think you've got to try and read that as well as you can, and try and work out what's difficult to face on that pitch. And I thought Amila [Aponso], coming in for his first game of the time, did a brilliant job. I think he went for a few runs in his second over. It might not have been easy for him to come back from that, but he got a wicket for us. And that sixth over in the Powerplay, which is really important to sort of go forward, and it sort of changed the momentum a little bit. We knew once we got out of the Powerplay, it was going to slow up, and with five fielders out, the boundaries were going to dry up as well. So we had our plans. We were able to use different speeds. Ian Holland is continuing to be a bit of a golden arm for us, and he's doing a great job. So it's nice having a lot of options, but it's good fun. [Qualified] Nice to have that 'Q'. Next thing is obviously trying to secure that top two, and get that double chance, so we'll be striving to go really well in Florida."
Most Valuable Player, Mitch Owen: "It's been good. [Golden Boy] Not sure about that. [Golden arm and golden duck] Golden duck, yeah, that's correct [laughter]. It's good fun. I feel like it sort of takes the pressure off each of the skills. So, just glad I can play my role. [Bowling under Maxwell] I feel like it's T20, you get lucky some days. I feel like I bowled similarly the other night and went none for 50. So I got the luck of the draw tonight and got a few wickets, luckily. It's just sort of being ready to do the role, whatever the team needs at the time. So happy I can help out. We are getting towards the end of our time here in Dallas, so the pitches are going to be a little bit slower and probably a little bit bowler-friendly than they have been. We knew that it might be a little bit up and down going into so I think the way that our batters batted through the middle and at the end was exceptional, and full credit to them, gave the bowlers free rein to sort of have a nice target to bowl at and try and defend. And luckily enough, we did it. [Batting approach] When I'm sticking to my processes, I tend to have a look, but today I got a bit excited having my mate, Xavier bowling and running at me. So, tried to hit him six the first ball. It didn't come off. So, yeah, onto the next game."
Matt Short: "After that start, it was a little disappointing to let them get to that total. We just missed with a little bit of execution there towards the end. I mean credit to Glenn Phillips and Obus. They batted really well at the end there. [Batting collapse] I'm not one for excuses. But it's a used wicket. It's baking out here in the sun. It's tough for new batters to come in and start. We probably should have played a little bit smarter. Probably could count on one hand, just a couple of little mistakes that we'd probably have, trying to build some partnerships through the middle, and take it down a couple of gears. Try and have that set batter sort of go through the innings like they did. But we'll get them in accounts. It's obviously been a really good season. Think we should dwell on it. Personally, I think that losses bring out the best in guys' learning. There's a few things we need to touch up on. And we'll go again in a couple of days, looking forward to getting over to Fort Lauderdale and pushing the finals."
5:35 pm The Washington Freedom have done it! They've now won six matches in a row and, even more impressively, they've ended the San Francisco Unicorns' incredible winning streak! This win means the Freedom are now the second team to qualify for the Playoffs this season! The Unicorns started their batting innings cautiously. But then Matt Short decided to unleash, taking on Aponso in the third over with a cracking four and a massive six. He didn't stop there, continuing his power-hitting on Edwards and Netravalkar throughout the Powerplay. However, Aponso eventually got his man, Finn Allen, during the Powerplay. Allen tried for a big shot but ended up inside-edging it onto his stumps. In the very next over, JFM lost his wicket cheaply, dismissed by Rachin Ravindra. Matt Short continued his brilliant form, bringing up his fourth consecutive fifty. But then Maxwell brought Mitch Owen into the attack, and what a move that was! Owen ripped through the Unicorns' lineup, bagging three wickets in his first two overs. After Short's dismissal, the San Francisco Unicorns crumbled, losing wickets in quick succession like a house of cards. Mitch Owen single-handedly turned the game around, even picking up an incredible five-wicket haul! And as they say, catches win matches - the Freedom fielders were absolutely brilliant today, holding onto everything that came their way. This was a stark contrast to the first innings, where Finn Allen dropped Glenn Phillips, and those extra runs proved to be quite costly for the Unicorns. Owen was clearly the standout bowler with his five wickets. Holland, Aponso, and Edwards also bowled economically and chipped in with a wicket each.
