Xavier Bartlett: "We spoke about it at meetings, just trying to get those key wickets in the Powerplay. They've been really strong up top, especially Mitch Owen. It was nice to get him early and sort of start the innings off. Length was really good. We sort of banged away at that six-to-eight-meter length top of the stump. [Pitch] It's probably a little bit slow at the start, sort of held in the wicket a little bit and, at the start we sort of capitalize towards the back end and the middle end there. They bat really nice especially Glenn and Jack."

Jonathan: "Well I can definitely see why Punter bought Bartlett over at the IPL. Definitely not complaining as a Heat superfan"

4:47 pm What a start for the Unicorns with the ball! Bartlett was on fire right from the first over, picking up two huge wickets: Mitch Owen and Andries Gous were both gone. He didn't stop there, getting his third by forcing Rachin Ravindra into a big shot that was easily caught at mid-off. The Washington Freedom were in severe trouble after losing four wickets during the powerplay! Edwards and Phillips then began the long journey to recovery, stabilising the ship and cautiously rebuilding the innings. They rotated the strike effectively and took their time assessing the pitch conditions. However, in the tenth over, Finn Allen dropped Glenn Phillips, which proved to be costly in the end! The pair established an excellent 71-run partnership before Edwards was caught at deep midwicket. Phillips, meanwhile, continued his excellent form by scoring 58 runs off 39 deliveries for the Freedom. A superb cameo down the order from Pienaar and Mukhtaar boosted the total even further. The Freedom made a great comeback, scoring 169 runs on a tacky surface. The Unicorns' death bowling fell short of their typical standards, giving the Freedom an advantage. Bartlett was the Unicorns' standout bowler, finishing with four wickets.
