8:13pm Rohit Sharma collects the trophy and hands it over to Siraj and the entire team poses behind the board that reads 'CHAMPIONS'. A clean sweep at home against Sri Lanka in what is a long build up to the Men's Cricket World Cup. They've begun well and will have stronger opponents in New Zealand soon. That game starts Wednesday. For tonight, on behalf of Chandan and Sidharth, I, Sudarshanan, take your leave. Adios!
8:02pm Time for the presentation.
Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka captain: "It's disappointing. Not a game we wanted. It happens. We need to learn how to manage the start. Bowlers should learn how to take wickets on these decks and the batters should learn to score. [Inured players] No idea, will have a look after this finishes. [Looking forward] Playing positive cricket is the more important thing. If the boys show intent, the bowling would have been different. Congratulations to Indian team for this performance."
Virat Kohli, player of the match and series: "[On receiving awards] It is the by-product of the intent I have. Mindset is to help the team, and put the team in strong position. I have played for the right reasons and that has helped. Ever since I came back from the break, I am feeling good and I don't have desperation to get to a milestone. I want to continue doing that and am content. Today I was happy to be batting out there and in that space I end up playing good cricket. I am in a nice space right now, just be organic. Shami has always been there for us with the new ball. But the way Siraj has come in and done with the new ball has been fantastic. He picks wickets in the powerplay, which was an issue in the past. It is a great sign for us heading into the World Cup."
Rohit Sharma, India captain: "I thought it was a great series for us. We bowled pretty well, got wickets, breakthroughs when we need. Batters throughout the series piling up those runs was good to watch. [When was the last time a fast bowler in India had four slips and a gully?] Don't remember that. Was good to see how Siraj was bowling and deserved the slips. The way he is swinging the ball, he is a rare talent. And in the last couple of years, we have seen him go from strength to strength. We tried all sort of things to help him get five but it couldn't. But the confidence is there and we can see in the way he is running. He is working on a few tricks. Not given too much thought about [NZ]. We'll get there and see and there will be a change in combination from what we saw today. We want to work like we did in this series to get the result we want."
Mohammed Siraj: "I was trying hard to pick up a five-for but you get only what is written in your destiny, however hard you try. My rhythm has been good for a long time. The outswinger has been working well and I try to slip in the wobble-seam delivery in. The captain tried hard that I should get a five-for."
Sowmya : "@ sudarshanan - Siraj told the exact words that I had sent after he finished the spell. Not a single of my multiple comments were published today!! Like his spell many of my jovial comments have been published in the past, true insights don't!! Cricket and Life!!!" Hahaha
Aravind: "Why was there no concussion substitute for Bandara?" Bandara was not concussed. He had been taken away due to a knee injury after that collision.
7:42pm Dominating win is an understatement. Never really did India let Sri Lanka in the contest all thanks to Gill, Kohli and then Siraj. Massive win to finish the series 3-0. Once India posted 390, the ask was a tall one for the Sri Lankan batters. But Siraj got the ball to move around appreciably and had the top order in two minds. That confusion was enough for him to run through. He couldn't get a five-for eventually but he can hold his head high given the way he has risen for India sans Bumrah, not just in this format, but in international cricket.
