This would be the second-highest fourth-innings total at Old Trafford if West Indies got there. Or even the highest I guess, if they did it with a boundary
James A: "Well done Josh Da Silva. Just wish he was batting for the Windies too" -- I reckon Dowrich will be OK to bat, but expect England will give him a short-ball barrage if he does come out.
Partyman: "What if the rain does not arrive tomorrow and gives West Indies enough time to get the runs the next two days? Root will look like a total mug! LOL!!!!" -- Err, I suppose so. But the forecast looks utterly dire, and it would still be some effort to chase 399 in the fourth innings given West Indies' batting efforts over the past, what, five years?
On comes the heavy roller at the innings break. As an aside, that wicket means Chase has continued his record of getting Burns out in every innings he has bowled to him: 5 out of 5 now, and 4 out of 4 in this series.
"Yet again Root fails to convert a 50 into a century," chortles Mike Henderson.
5.58pm: 399 to win for West Indies. Just over 20 minutes for them to see out tonight, then rain dances all round tonight no doubt. Burns and Sibley set the platform for England, even if it was a bit turgid at times, before Root played a busy, 50-over-style innings to make 68 not out and allow himself to declare (with a nice little average-booster, too)
RJ Burns c sub (†J Da Silva) b Chase 90 (250m 163b 10x4 0x6) SR: 55.21
With that run, Root overtakes Mike Atherton in England's all-time list
