9.15am Before coming here, South Africa knew what to expect. In the first Test, they experienced it first hand, and even gave a fight in the second half of the match. So it's obvious to expect a much better show here. Moreover, they will have Keshav Maharaj, their lead spinner. The Rawalpindi pitch may not be as extreme as the one in Lahore but spinners are likely to remain the biggest threat. While we wait for the toss, do read our preview.
Waqar Ahmed: "plz dont forget our hero Saeed Ajmal name"
Neal: "Lovely intro, Hemant. Pakistani fans in particular will be feeling nostalgic right now."
9am Change, they say, is the only constant. Ever since Fazal Mahmood took 12 wickets against India in what was Pakistan's only second Test, the country has been a factory of fast bowlers. Sarfraz Nawaz showed the world what reverse swing could do. Imran Khan dismantled batting line-ups and groomed Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. In the late 1990s and 2000s, we had a freak in Shoaib Akhtar and an artist in Mohammad Asif. Pakistan have still got Shaheen Shah Afridi and others, but in the last one year or so, things have changed at home. It's not that Pakistan never had world-class spinners - they had Abdul Qadir, Mushtaq Ahmed, Saqlain Mushtaq - but they were never the primary threat. Now, the visiting teams are more concerned about Sajid Khan's spitting offbreaks and Noman Ali's deceptive slow left-arm than anything else. Toss, turn and triumph seems to be their formula, and it has paid off so far. Will we see a repeat once again? I am Hemant Brar and will be joined by Shashwat Kumar later in the day as we bring you all the action.
