Final day report: Hazlewood's haul of five helps Australia surge to victory inside three days
Pat Cummins, Australia captain: Was a great Test. Thought it'd be a tight day today. Played as well as we could, thought the Test was in the balance for the most part. We wanted to get 200, but felt lot more comfortable thanks to the way we batted. Lucky to have Josh, presents a good seam and hits good areas. Bowled beautifully. Beau made his way into the Aussie team with a lot of Sheffield Shield runs. Got a lot of experience. He's positive, keeps the scorecard ticking even on tough wickets. (Message between Tests) First up, we need to rest and recover to get into the next game with full energy. Will go in and assess conditions to decide on what's needed.
Roston Chase, WI captain: Result was heartbreaking. Started well with the ball, would've taken 178 all out after being put into bowl anytime. Plan was to get 100 runs lead, that would've set things up nicely. We didn't have the best of starts, Shai and I had a partnership. Did well to get a lead but couldn't put a batting innings together. We slipped in terms of fielding, didn't take chances, can't do that at this level. Travis-Beau played a beautiful partnership. Must commend our bowlers' efforts, they gave it their all. Coming into the game, there was a bit of controversy in the news, talking about Curtly Ambrose and stuff [Ian Healy said 'Shamar, you're not Curtly'], I guess he used that as fire to perform the way he did. I just want to congratulate him on the game. Shows the heart and character he has. We didn't get off to a good start. We were looking at least for a 50 partnership. We knew it was a new-ball wicket. Wanted to nullify it, but we lost our most experienced batsman in the first over and never got a foot back in the game after that.
Travis Head, POTM: (Challenges of the surface) I'd liked to conquer the conditions a bit more, feel like I left a few. It was tricky on day one, that was the trend. We batted exceptionally well today to set 300. I was more positive on day 1 when the game was open, last night I was desperate to get through to stumps. Nice to get in there with Beau last night. A bit slow in the second innings but that was what was needed. Beau's had an exceptional start, he's played a lot of first-class experience, has played in different conditions, was fantastic today. Not that I try and put it on myself. (More responsibility as Smith and Marnus weren't there?) Every time I go out, I try and be accountable. Was bad that I couldn't contribute in the WTC final. Tough conditions, glad to be among runs.
Josh Hazlewood: There's enough in the wicket, up-and-down from a length. Just about hitting that area time and time again and be patient. I'm just enjoying cricket, Tests in the moment. Good team, atmosphere. I think once we saw WI take the second new ball today, thought things could happen, but not that fast. There's a few cracks on a length from one end, some went low and got a few bowleds and lbws.
Tanay Kulhara: "What west indies should look at the most is not the fact that they weren't able to chase 300, But that they didn't last more then 35 overs!"
Chetan: "My comment that it would end today was not published, boo!" It was, I stand corrected too.
6:14pm, Day 3, end of match: There were some expectations at the start of the day that this Test might end this evening, but not with Australia batting two sessions. They then took the ball and were fiery hot. Starc got big swing, had Brathwaite fall into the leg side trap and created another chance too. Hazlewood was expensive in his first four but had a change of ends and turned into a monster. He got Campbell, who went for an audacious ramp that came off in the first dig, and King back to back first up before getting Chase bat-padding a couple of overs later. Seam movement did Carty in as WI slipped from 47 for 1 to 57 for 5. That went to 86 for 8, but Greaves - and more importantly - Shamar belted a few. Shamar nearly had a record-fastest fifty, got the day extended by half-hour, could've gotten it to the next day too, but it ended two balls before that point was reached thanks to Lyon.
JNT Seales c Konstas b Lyon 0 (1m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0
Three more balls to go in the day
PCN: "That pigeon should be investigated"
S Joseph c Khawaja b Lyon 44 (35m 22b 4x4 4x6) SR: 200
There's an injured pigeon close to the pitch that's creating a delay
Lid's off for the final over of the day
Coach Sammy feels they either have to bat longer or bat faster. But in the first Test they could do neither
One demerit point has also been added to his disciplinary record
"It's clear to see anyone would feel bad or feel hurt about those decisions. You're out there playing to win, giving it your all and it seems like everyone is against you"
The top four had another bad time of it in the second innings in Barbados, and Sam Konstas is under increasing pressure after falling to an incoming ball for a second time in the game
The West Indies fast bowler was fined 15% of his match fees and given one demerit point
