10:15pm That will be all from us for tonight. We hope you enjoyed our coverage just as much as we loved bringing it to you. We will be back at it on Sunday for the final of the 2024 edition of the TNPL, where the Dindigul Dragons will take on the Kovai Kings. We look forward to your company, and until then, this is goodbye from me and Sudeep. Take care!
P Vignesh, Player of the Match: (On his interactions with Ashwin and Chakravarthy) Had nice interactions with them and my roles were also specified from early. I just wanted to stick to my process. Wanted to do my routines properly and it worked out well.
R Ashwin, Dindigul Dragons captain: We have still not produced a complete game yet. Maybe we can bring our best game to the final. I try to tell these youngsters whatever I can, that is my way of giving back to the game. Sometimes, I am right, sometimes not (laughs). Coming into the tournament, I planned to open. But in a rain-affected game, I injured my hamstring. It is getting better now. He (Shivam Singh) will be available to play the next game but that injury could have been avoided, that one run could have been let go.
Sai Kishore, Tiruppur Tamizhans captain: The whole season has been fantastic. To qualify as the second-placed team, from the position we were in, was good. We did not take the right choices at the start. Silly errors from us and it was a 150-160 wicket, we could have fought with that score. We tried to get there but couldn't. (On bowling to Ashwin) For every cricketer in Tamil Nadu and in fact for every Indian cricketer, he is an inspiration. It has been a challenging season for me (not being at a 100%), but this season makes me want to push again (next year). Lot of players had good seasons. Hard to pick one player. Two-three players can definitely be mainstays for Tamil Nadu cricket. I also want to wish good luck to the two teams for the final.
9:58pm Clinical and classy. Two words that epitomize everything about this run-chase. Ashwin, with Shivam Singh injured, walked out to open and he made it look very, very easy. The spinners endured his wrath inside the powerplay, and to be fair, everyone seemed out of ideas when bowling to him. He played the sweep, the reverse sweep, the lofted shots and the pulls to absolute perfection, helping the Dragons pummel the Tamizhans into submission.
Not a lot to shout about for the Tiruppur Tamizhans. They did not have many to defend, and their bowling was not great. Sai Kishore was taken apart and that sort of summed up their plight. Getting to this stage, considering where they were at one point, was a decent effort but having gotten here, they will feel they could not quite turn up when the occasion demanded.
