7:10pm Some recovery this from West Indies. They were down in the dumps at 56 for 8 with Theekshana and Hasaranga running roost. But it was a counter-attack like none other as Motie kickstarted a run of something special. He came out all guns blazing and there was a method to his madness. He chose his deliveries to attack and that allowed Rutherford some time to get a measure of the conditions and the surface before he could explode. He used his power - and the short-arm jabs - to magnificent effect to bring up his second consecutive half-century. Looked good for a century that the rain denied him in the first ODI but it wasn't to be. Motie completed his deserving fifty before the innings came to a close.
If West Indies needs to get some inspiration from this innings, they need not look beyond how the Sri Lankan spinners bowled at the start. They would need to exploit the spin on the surface if they want to stay alive in the series. And they would also need to catch everything that comes their way, unlike Sri Lanka, who let Rutherford slip twice and paid for it. Don't go too far off, Fidel will be back in about half an hour for the start of the Lankan reply
