Summer Recruiting Bible: Texas hitting Lone Star State hard

Throughout June and heading into the all-important July recruiting period, Jeff Goodman and Jeff Borzello will take a look at the summer checklists for the top 50 programs in college basketball, as revealed in Goodman's preseason ballot published in late May. Goodman and Borzello will show you each roster the way the program's coaches are looking at it, projecting graduation/NBA casualties and areas of need ahead of 2016-17. Below is the summer guide for the Texas Longhorns.

An index and schedule for the Summer Recruiting Bible series is located HERE.

Summer scenario

Shaka Smart had a strong first spring with the Longhorns, convincing Eric Davis and Kerwin Roach Jr. to stay in the fold and then reeling in Tevin Mack, who originally committed to Smart at VCU. Now he has to carry that momentum into the 2016 class, which will be a significant one for the Longhorns -- especially with five seniors and the possible NBA future of Isaiah Taylor. As a result, Texas is casting a wide net of targets, but also is placing a priority on several in-state kids. The Longhorns already have done a great job getting high-level players -- especially from in the state -- to take visits to check out the new regime. De'Aaron Fox has been on campus twice since Smart took over, and Marques Bolden recently visited Austin. Fast-rising in-state center Jarrett Allen lives nearby, and the Longhorns also got Kameron McGusty on a visit. Those four are the prime targets for Smart and his staff as they try to make some headway in the talent-laden state. With so many available scholarships, the Longhorns aren't necessarily emphasizing one position -- they're going after the best players, plain and simple.
