Summer Recruiting Bible: Can Terps seize momentum?

Mark Turgeon and the Terps will need to capitalize on their new, elite standing. Mike Carter/USA TODAY Sports

Throughout June and heading into the all-important July recruiting period, Jeff Goodman and Jeff Borzello will take a look at the summer checklists for the top 50 programs in college basketball, as revealed in Goodman's preseason ballot published in late May. Goodman and Borzello will show you each roster the way the coaches are looking at it, projecting graduation/NBA casualties and areas of need ahead of 2016-17. Below is the summer guide for the Maryland Terrapins:

Summer scenario

The Terps are certain to lose two starters in Layman and Sulaimon -- and could lose as many as three more. Trimble could depart after this season, and Stone -- a true post player with an NBA-ready body -- could also leave. Carter is another possibility to depart, so this is a huge recruiting class for coach Mark Turgeon in terms of being able to sustain momentum. There will still be some pieces in place with guys like Wiley, Nickens and Cekovsky, but the Terps have to take advantage of the on-court success they will likely have this season and parlay it into a few top 75 players. The priority may be Fultz, but there are plenty of other top 75 players on the radar: Turgeon will need , a big wing to replace Layman, maybe a big to replace Stone and a guard that might have to replace Trimble.
