Four-star Alabama commit Zyan Gibson is "standing by" his pledge to the Crimson Tide, the defensive back wrote on social media Sunday night, shortly after posting a decommitment graphic.
Gibson, No. 65 in the 2026 ESPN 300, is the longest-tenured member of Alabama's 2026 recruiting class, which is No. 8 in ESPN's latest rankings for the cycle. According to his post, Gibson intends to sign with the Crimson Tide when the early signing period opens Wednesday.
"Earlier today, a post was shared about my decommitment. I want to clarify that this message was the result of a miscommunication," Gibson wrote late Sunday, little more than an hour after a graphic announcing his decommitment appeared on his personal Instagram. "I'm standing by my pledge I made to [Alabama]."
Gibson initially committed to the Crimson Tide on Dec. 25, 2024. ESPN's eighth-ranked cornerback prospect, Gibson has limited his campus visits exclusively to Alabama since he formally shut down his recruiting process in June and has consistently expressed his intention to sign with the Crimson Tide throughout the fall, as recently as Nov. 19, in an interview with 247Sports.
Gibson is one of six top-100 defenders in a star-studded Crimson Tide defensive class, which includes pledges from another pair of coveted defensive backs in five-star safety Jireh Edwards (No. 16) and No. 3 cornerback Jorden Edmonds (No. 33). Three-star safety Rihyael Kelley fills out the program's secondary class in coach Kalen DeBoer's second recruiting cycle in charge.
No. 10 Alabama (10-2) is set to face No. 4 Georgia in the SEC championship game on Saturday at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
