Texas A&M loses lead rusher Le'Veon Moss (leg) for season

Le'Veon Moss, Texas A&M's leading rusher, suffered a season-ending leg injury in the Aggies' 44-20 loss to South Carolina this weekend, coach Mike Elko announced Monday.

Moss had two carries for 8 yards in the first quarter against the Gamecocks before he was injured on a hit and carted off the field.

He had run for 765 yards and 10 touchdowns this year, averaging 6.3 yards per rush. He was a dependable weapon for the Aggies, with multiple rushing touchdowns in three straight games, last accomplished at A&M by Trayveon Williams in 2018.

Amari Daniels, who has shared carries with Moss this year and has 94 rushes for 466 yards and six touchdowns, had 83 yards on 13 carries, including a 56-yarder, in the loss Saturday.

"We're confident in Amari and his ability to go back there," Elko told reporters.

Daniels and EJ Smith (33 carries for 107 yards this season), the son of Emmitt Smith, are the only healthy scholarship running backs remaining.

The Aggies lost presumptive starter Rueben Owens to a foot injury suffered in a scrimmage in August. Freshman Terry Bussey, the No. 1 athlete in the 2024 ESPN 300, has nine carries in selected spots throughout the season.

Texas A&M is 7-2 and 5-1 in the SEC after its first conference loss this week and has a bye before New Mexico State comes to College Station on Nov. 16. The Aggies wind down the season with a road game at Auburn on Nov. 23 before hosting Texas on Nov. 30.
