Ranking college football's top 10 freshmen of 2020 entering Week 10

Freshman defensive back Malachi Moore (13) leads Alabama with three forced turnovers and has been voted SEC freshman of the week twice this season. Caitie McMekin/USA Today Network

As we move further into the 2020 college football season, more and more true freshmen are starting to separate themselves as impact players for their teams.

We are ranking the top true freshman performers over the course of the season, and there are a few new names this week as some young players get more comfortable in their teams' systems and receive more playing time.

Since this list is ever changing with each week that is played, the names will continue to change.

That includes names that could land in the top 10 in the future, such as Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, who threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 25 yards and a score against Boston College.

We still have the Pac-12 true freshmen who haven't yet started the season. We could see a few young Oregon defenders pop up on this list, including linebacker Justin Flowe or defensive back Dontae Manning.

Those players will have some catching up to do, though, as the many others are already off to strong starts. Here are the 10 top-performing true freshmen so far this season:

1. DE Myles Murphy
Clemson Tigers

Murphy has been pretty consistent as far as true freshmen go, and he has contributed since day one. He now has 25 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles on the season.

As he becomes more of a fixture in Clemson's system, he should be able to continue to improve his stats. He has already shown why he was so highly rated in high school -- he was ranked No. 13 in the 2020 ESPN 300 -- and many tabbed him as an early contributor.

2. DB Malachi Moore
Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama has had some outstanding defensive backs come through under coach Nick Saban, and Moore is shaping up to be another. After having a few slip-ups earlier this season, something expected for a true freshman thrown into the fire at cornerback, the game seems to be slowing down for him.

Moore now has 28 total tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble. He leads the team with those three forced turnovers and has twice been voted the SEC freshman of the week.

3. DB Eli Ricks
LSU Tigers

Bigsby delivers big stiff-arm en route to a TD

Tank Bigsby lives up to his first name with a crushing stiff-arm before scoring the Auburn touchdown.

Speaking of programs with great defensive backs, LSU has had its fair share as well. Derek Stingley Jr. starred for the Tigers' defense as a freshman, and now it looks as though Ricks is going to do the same.

Ricks, from California, was the No. 39 recruit in the 2020 class and was thought to be a huge signing for LSU. He's proving that to be true, as he now has three interceptions on the season -- one of which was a pick-six -- and 11 total tackles.

4. LB BJ Ojulari
LSU Tigers

LSU's defense hasn't performed to the level it's used to, but Ojulari and the aforementioned Ricks provide some hope for the future with how they have played. Ojulari was the No. 122-ranked prospect in his class and was viewed as a recruit who would be able to get after the quarterback and help with the pass rush.

He has done that and then some so far for the Tigers. Ojulari is leading the team in sacks with four, and has five tackles for loss along with 12 total tackles.

5. RB Deuce Vaughn
Kansas State Wildcats

Vaughn has been one of the great surprises of the season for Kansas State. He is small in stature but has had a big presence on the field. He's listed at only 5-foot-5, 168 pounds, but his size hasn't stopped him from making exciting plays.

On 70 rush attempts, Vaughn has 331 yards and four touchdowns. He also has 15 receptions for 361 yards and one touchdown. He has been able to help in multiple facets of the offense and has given opposing defenses problems this season.

6. RB Tank Bigsby
Auburn Tigers

Bigsby is another athlete who has started to gain momentum as the season goes on. In his first two games, he had only 46 rush yards on 14 attempts with no touchdowns.

In the four games since, Bigsby had 457 rush yards and five touchdowns. Auburn has had an up-and-down season so far, but Bigsby's constant improvement has been a bright spot.

Rattler, Mims duo strikes again for 61-yard TD

Spencer Rattler let's one fly deep down the field and Marvin Mims catches it over the defender to haul in the touchdown.

7. WR Marvin Mims
Oklahoma Sooners

Stop me if you've heard this before, but Oklahoma has some exciting players at wide receiver. Mims is proving to be one of them, as he has already had a ton of production for the Sooners.

He has 23 receptions, 388 yards and six receiving touchdowns, which all lead the team, as well as 154 punt-return yards. There is no shortage of talent at receiver on this Oklahoma team, so a true freshman leading the squad in each category says a lot about Mims' ability.

8. DT Bryan Bresee
Clemson Tigers

Bresee has been on this list all season because similar to his freshman teammate Murphy, he has played a role on Clemson's defensive line for the entire year.

As it stands, Bresee has 11 total tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble and a blocked field goal. He earned defensive player of the game for Clemson against Boston College, when he had a sack on which he forced an intentional grounding in the end zone for a safety.

9. LB Will Anderson Jr.
Alabama Crimson Tide

Playing as a true freshman for Alabama is hard enough, and Anderson is another young defender for the Crimson Tide who has improved his play as the season has gone on.

Similar to Moore, he had a few hiccups early on, but now he has 22 total tackles, three tackles for loss and four quarterback hurries.

10. WR Jordan Addison
Pittsburgh Panthers

Addison is another player who has been on this list most of the season and was contributing from day one at Pitt.

The Pitt offense has been up and down, but Addison has been a bright spot as he leads the team in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns -- he has 484 yards on 41 receptions with three touchdowns for the Panthers.
