Ranking college football's top 10 freshmen of 2020 entering Week 7

Throughout the 2020 college football season, we will be tracking performances from true freshmen, ranking who has made the biggest impact.

Some first-year players burst onto the scene in their first game while others are slowly starting to show their potential. This list is meant to be a running look at overall performances throughout the season, not just a week-to-week ranking.

Here is a look at which top true freshmen have impacted the game the most so far.

1. DE Myles Murphy
Clemson Tigers

Murphy had a breakout debut -- seven tackles and two sacks against Wake Forest -- and has been a consistent starter for Clemson in the Tigers' first few games. He has become more and more comfortable each week, building his stat line in the process. So far, Murphy has 19 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

2. QB Jeff Sims
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Sims has a tall task being a true freshman quarterback, trying to lead a team while still growing and learning a system. He has done an excellent job commanding the offense, with a few hiccups here and there, to be expected from a true freshman.

Sims has 944 pass yards and five touchdowns in the first four games. He ranks 21st in pass yards among all FBS quarterbacks and also has 251 rush yards with three rushing touchdowns.

3. RB Deuce Vaughn
Kansas State Wildcats

Vaughn is diminutive in stature -- 5-foot-5, 168 pounds -- but has been a big part of the Kansas State offense so far. A three-star prospect out of high school, he has been electric on the field.

Through four games, Vaughn has 248 rushing yards on 50 attempts with three touchdowns, as well as 279 receiving yards on nine receptions with one touchdown. He has been a pleasant surprise for Kansas State and has provided a versatile balance to the offense.

4. WR Jordan Addison
Pittsburgh Panthers

Pitt's offense has put up some big numbers so far this season, and Addison has been one reason for that. The Panthers are 3-2, but Addison has been a bright spot for the future and has already shown his capabilities.

Addison currently has 30 receptions, 297 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He has five rushing attempts for 43 yards, as well as four kick returns for 39 yards and two punt returns for 15 yards. He has done a little bit of everything so far this season and has a touchdown in three of the five games for Pitt.

5. RB Chris Tyree
Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Tyree has eased into this season with running back Kyren Williams ahead of him, but each game he has earned more and more reps and capitalized on those opportunities.

After six carries for 20 yards in his debut and eight carries for 65 yards and a touchdown against USF, Tyree had 11 rush attempts, 106 yards and one touchdown against Florida State. In three games, he has also returned seven kicks for 158 yards.

6. RB Tank Bigsby
Auburn Tigers

His name is Tank -- what else can you ask for? He should be ranked higher for his name alone, but that wouldn't be fair. He played a pivotal role in Auburn's 30-28 win over Arkansas, helping lead the Tigers into field goal range for the go-ahead kick with 7 seconds remaining.

Bigsby had 20 carries for 146 yards against Arkansas, bringing him to 192 yards on 34 rush attempts. He also has 11 receptions and 84 receiving yards, as well as 208 yards on nine kick returns.

7. TE Arik Gilbert
LSU Tigers

A lot of people were waiting for the 6-5, 249-pound Gilbert to turn things up and have a breakout game. He's a matchup nightmare and has wide receiver abilities in a tight end's body.

Gilbert had six catches for 97 yards and one touchdown against Missouri, and he now has 14 catches, 177 yards and two touchdowns on the season. As he and quarterback Myles Brennan gain more chemistry, Gilbert should have more opportunities to help the offense.

8. DL Bryan Bresee
Clemson Tigers

Similar to his teammate Murphy, Bresee had an excellent debut against Wake Forest. The coaches raved about how ready he was coming in as a freshman and he has shown that on the field.

Bresee currently has six total tackles, three solo tackles, 1.5 sacks, two pass breakups and one blocked field goal.

9. DB Malachi Moore
Alabama Crimson Tide

Moore is yet another long defensive back at Alabama who is showing a ton of potential early on. The Alabama defense has not been the usual Crimson Tide defense we have come to expect, but Moore has been one of the bright spots as a freshman.

He already has 16 total tackles, 11 solo tackles, one interception and two pass breakups. He made some freshman mistakes and showed some inexperience against Ole Miss, but Moore is still playing well overall for a true freshman.

10. LB Stefon Thompson
Syracuse Orange

Thompson is one of the top tacklers for Syracuse through four games. He got off to a fast start and is steadily contributing each week.

Thompson now has 14.5 total tackles, seven solo tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.
