College football recruiting is still in a created dead period, which means no in-person contact, but that doesn't mean the recruiting cycle isn't still moving as expected.
In fact, only 61 ESPN 300 recruits are uncommitted, and a few of those prospects are expected to announce their commitments this week. It has yet to be seen if the same number of recruits will commit and sign in the early signing period in December, but as of now, the cycle is moving forward.
Here is a look at some of the top uncommitted prospects, including two who are expected to announce this week, and where they might end up.
OT Tristan Leigh
6-foot-5, 280 pounds
Fairfax, Virginia
ESPN 300 rank: 22
Schools in the mix: Alabama, Clemson, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma
LSU has been a favorite, but Leigh recently participated in the Sooners Summit, which was a recruiting visit organized by quarterback prospect Caleb Williams to bring Oklahoma targets to campus. Coaches couldn't facilitate the visit or talk to the recruits, but the trip was a success for the Sooners. That was the last school on Leigh's list that he hadn't visited, so now each school is on the same playing field. Leigh said he doesn't know yet if he'll announce a commitment before December and sign early or if he'll wait, so that could impact where he ends up. For now, though, it seems LSU has a good shot at landing him, but Oklahoma is making a push.
Prediction: LSU
RB Camar Wheaton
5-11, 195 pounds
Garland, Texas
ESPN 300 rank: 41
Schools in the mix: Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma
Wheaton was another recruit on campus for the Sooners Summit, visiting along with Leigh, Williams and a few other prospects. Despite being from Texas, Wheaton could very well end up in the Oklahoma class. Leigh said all the recruits on the makeshift visit forgot they were taking a football trip and felt like they were all on a trip as friends. Wheaton only recently announced his top three of Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma, somewhat surprisingly not including Texas. But the bonding experience in Norman might be enough to push the Sooners ahead in what would be a big addition at running back.
Prediction: Oklahoma
DE Bryce Langston
6-3, 245 pounds
Ocala, Florida
ESPN 300 rank: 63
Schools in the mix: Florida, LSU
Langston had been committed to Florida since 2018 but decommitted in 2019. That was a case in which a prospect made a decision too soon, backed off, but still had interest in the school. The Gators continued pursuing him, and Langston was able to visit campus before the dead period was put in place. The lack of any visits might help Florida get him in the end. Without the opportunity to take an actual visit and see a place like LSU in person for a game, that could make a big difference in any recruit's process.
Prediction: Florida
CB Nathaniel Wiggins
6-2, 170 pounds
Atlanta
ESPN 300 rank: 222
Schools in the mix: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU
Wiggins is a tall corner who fits the mold of what most programs are looking for at the position. He is expected to announce his commitment on Friday. He has been linked pretty heavily to LSU, and it seems as though the Tigers have a good shot at landing Wiggins. LSU's success at corner could be too much for the other schools on his list, but we'll find out soon enough.
Prediction: LSU
TE Thomas Fidone Jr.
6-5, 210 pounds
Council Bluffs, Iowa
ESPN 300 rank: 266
Schools in the mix: Iowa, LSU, Nebraska, Michigan
Fidone has been relatively quiet throughout his recruitment, and there hasn't been much change in the belief that Nebraska has led for quite some time. He has been a fan of the Huskers, and living on the border of Iowa and Nebraska, he's very close to the Nebraska campus. It would be a surprise if he didn't end up choosing the Huskers.
Prediction: Nebraska
