College football's early signing period begins Wednesday, and many of the top high school football prospects are expected to sign a national letter of intent next week.
There are currently 57 uncommitted ESPN 300 recruits, and while not all of them will end up signing in the early signing period, some big names are coming off the board in just a few days.
Here is a look at some of the top uncommitted recruits who plan on making their commitments and signing a national letter of intent, next week.
DE Jordan Burch
6-foot-4, 250 pounds
Columbia, South Carolina/Hammond School
ESPN 300 rank: 5
Burch has been tough to read, so this one could go in a few different directions. He is from Columbia, South Carolina, and the Gamecocks are very much in the conversation to land him. LSU has pushed hard to add this five-star to its class as well, and Clemson has not given up, trying to push back up to the No. 1-ranked class. This very well could be down to those three schools, and Burch could end up at any of them.
In the mix: Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina
Prediction: LSU
LB Justin Flowe
6-foot-2, 225 pounds
Upland, California/Upland High School
ESPN 300 rank: 9
Clemson has long been thought to be the leader with Flowe, who is the top-ranked linebacker in the country and a five-star recruit. He has visited Oregon and Miami, and both schools are right in the mix. Oregon has built some momentum with quite a few California prospects, but it's unclear if it'll be enough to also land him. If Clemson lands Flowe, it would give the staff four five-star commitments, three of whom are defensive prospects. That would be an impressive haul for Clemson, but Oregon and Miami aren't going to give up without a fight.
In the mix: Clemson, Georgia, Miami, Oregon
Prediction: Clemson
LB Phillip Webb
6-foot-4, 225 pounds
Sugar Hill, Georgia/Lanier High School
ESPN 300 rank: 25
Webb had initially released his top five of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU and Oklahoma, but is focused now on Alabama, Florida and LSU. This is another case where it could come down to the wire with all three schools having a legitimate shot. LSU seems to be the front-runner, but never say never with Nick Saban and Alabama. Meanwhile, Dan Mullen and his staff have had some success around the early signing period in the past. All three schools have pegged him for a similar position as a rush-end linebacker, which can be versatile, so it will end up coming down to where he's most comfortable.
In the mix: Alabama, Florida, LSU
Prediction: LSU
OT Marcus Dumervil
6-foot-5, 295 pounds
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida/St. Thomas Aquinas
ESPN 300 rank: 65
Dumervil's uncle is Elvis Dumervil, who played at Louisville, and the Cardinals are in the top group for this outstanding offensive lineman. LSU's success this season on offense, however, might help push the Tigers over the top for his signature. Dumervil has taken his time and taken visits to all the schools he's considering, but LSU seems to be mentioned the most.
In the mix: Florida, Louisville, LSU, Oklahoma
Prediction: LSU
RB E.J. Smith
5-foot-11, 195 pounds
Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep
ESPN 300 rank: 96
Smith is the son of Dallas Cowboys and Florida Gators legendary running back Emmitt Smith. The younger Smith was already accepted into Stanford, which is a difficult accomplishment and something recruits usually don't take lightly. The Cardinal have a good shot with Smith, but he has kept everything very close to the vest in terms of where he wants to go, so his decision could end up being a surprise.
In the mix: Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Stanford, Texas A&M
Prediction: Stanford
LB Trenton Simpson
6-foot-2, 215
Charlotte, North Carolina/Mallard Creek High School
ESPN 300 rank: 107
When Mack Brown was hired at North Carolina, he said he wanted to keep the state's top prospects home, and he has a chance to do just that in this 2020 class. North Carolina already has the top-ranked prospect in the state committed with No. 2 overall DE Desmond Evans. If Simpson, the No. 4 recruit in the state and a former Auburn commit, chooses North Carolina, that will give the Tar Heels three of the top four in-state recruits with Evans and DE Myles Murphy.
In the mix: Clemson, North Carolina
Prediction: North Carolina
QB C.J. Stroud
6-foot-3, 195 pounds
Rancho Cucamonga, California/Rancho Cucamonga High School
ESPN 300 rank: 176
Stroud has taken his time with his recruitment, and it really started to take off after he won MVP at the Elite 11 finals in July. He was offered by the Buckeyes, then Michigan and Georgia got in the mix. It seems as though the Wolverines have made an impression, but it might not be enough to overtake the Buckeyes here.
In the mix: Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State
Prediction: Ohio State
