Big recruiting class raises expectations for Texas (0:56)

College Football Live breaks down the expectations and outlook for the Longhorns after recruiting a strong class of newcomers. (0:56)

With signing day in the books, we can rank the coaches who were the best recruiters for the 2018 class for the final time. The last month of recruiting brought some big shifts in the rankings and, therefore, in this list.

Here is a look at the top 10 recruiters for the 2018 class.

1. Dell McGee, Georgia
Top commitment: QB Justin Fields (No. 1 in ESPN 300)
McGee has helped a surging Georgia team in this 2018 class by landing the top overall prospect in Fields during the early signing period. McGee played a big part in keeping Fields, a onetime Penn State commit, in his home state, giving the Dawgs some tremendous depth at quarterback. McGee also had a hand in landing running backs Zamir White and James Cook to help get this class to No. 1 overall in the rankings.

2. Greg Schiano, Ohio State
Top commitment: OL Matthew Jones (No. 41 in ESPN 300)
Schiano has been a big part of Ohio State's No. 2-ranked recruiting class. A former head coach, Schiano has caught the attention of quite a few prospects, including ESPN 300 tight end Jeremy Ruckert and ESPN 300 defensive back Josh Proctor. Schiano helped land Marcus Hooker, as well as Jones. Ruckert said the Buckeyes' defensive coordinator had a huge role in his recruitment and that his family loved Schiano. Schiano has had a hand in landing quite a few top-100 prospects within the ESPN 300.

3. Sam Pittman, Georgia
Top commitment:
OL Trey Hill (No. 22 in ESPN 300)
This Georgia recruiting class is full of top prospects, especially along the offensive line. Pittman played a big part in the Dawgs landing the No. 1 recruiting class, helping with Hill as well as ESPN 300 prospects Jamaree Salyer (offensive guard), Cade Mays (offensive tackle) and Warren Ericson (offensive guard). Mays flipped from Tennessee despite living in Knoxville and that his father also played for the Vols. The offensive front is in good shape because of Pittman.

4. Jason Washington, Texas
Top commitment: S Caden Sterns (No. 39 in ESPN 300)
Washington was a big help in Texas turning around its recruiting efforts, going from the No. 33 class in 2017 to the top five in 2018. He helped land Sterns and was also in on ESPN 300 prospects D'Shawn Jamison (cornerback), Anthony Cook (cornerback), Jalen Green (cornerback) and Joshua Moore (athlete), as well as three-star athlete Mike Williams. The Longhorns finished with 19 ESPN 300 commitments, and Washington was a big part of that.

5. Johnny Nansen, USC
Top commitment:
LB Palaie Gaoteote (No. 18 in ESPN 300)
Nansen is the recruiting coordinator and linebackers coach for the Trojans, so he had his hand in quite a few of the commitments. USC made a big jump on signing day, and Nansen played a large part in that. He helped reel in Gaoteote as well as ESPN 300 linebacker Solomon Tuliaupupu and athlete Talanoa Hufanga. Nansen also helped flip linebacker Eli'jah Winston from Oregon.

6. Jeff Scott, Clemson
Top commitment:
ATH Derion Kendrick (No. 62 in ESPN 300)
Scott is always on the top of recruiting lists. Kendrick is an ESPN 300 commitment whom Scott helped land. Scott was also in on ESPN 300 wide receiver Justyn Ross and defensive lineman Josh Belk, as well as offensive tackle Jordan McFadden and kicker BT Potter. Pulling Ross from the state of Alabama was a big coup for Scott and Clemson, as he is the first prospect ranked No. 1 in Alabama to leave the state since Jameis Winston in 2012.

7. Josh Gattis, Penn State/Alabama
Top commitment:
WR Justin Shorter (No. 8 in ESPN 300)
Gattis has always been an excellent recruiter for Penn State, but this class really took off. He was hired by Alabama after the early signing period, so he also helped recruit some of the Crimson Tide's class. While at Penn State, Gattis helped to reel in Shorter and had a hand in landing ESPN 300 receivers Jahan Dotson and Daniel George. Defensive lineman Judge Culpepper was a part of Gattis' recruiting efforts as well, and he played a big role in getting the Nittany Lions up to the No. 4 class. At Alabama, Gattis also helped with wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

8. Tony Alford, Ohio State
Top commitment:
ATH Jaelen Gill (No. 30 in ESPN 300)
Alford helped land Gill, an athletic running back who will fit right in with what Ohio State does on offense. He also managed to secure a commitment from ESPN 300 defensive back Sevyn Banks, as well as ESPN 300 running backs Brian Snead and Master Teague. Alford has helped to restock the running back and H-back position for Ohio State, compiling a ton of talent in one class. Landing two ESPN 300 prospects in Florida and one four-star in Tennessee is a big deal.

9. Raymond Woodie, Florida State
Top commitment:
DT Malcolm Lamar (No. 162 in ESPN 300)
Woodie came over from Oregon to Florida State with new coach Willie Taggart and has already made an impact in recruiting. The Seminoles moved up from No. 36 in the class rankings at the start of the early signing period to No. 11 on Feb. 7. Adding Lamar, receiver Warren Thompson, linebacker Xavier Peters, cornerback Isaiah Bolden and running back Dennis Briggs, among others, is a big part of why Florida State made the jump in the rankings. The future of recruiting in Tallahassee is in good hands with Taggart and this staff based on what they were able to do in such a short period of time.

10. Mike Elko, Notre Dame/Texas A&M
Top commitment: CB Houston Griffith (No. 87 in ESPN 300)
Elko started at Notre Dame before eventually leaving to take the defensive coordinator position at Texas A&M. He played a large role in the Irish recruiting class, helping to reel in Griffith as well as safety Derrik Allen, twin defensive linemen Jayson and Justin Ademilola, and safety Shayne Simon, among others. For Texas A&M, Elko played a part in signing ESPN 300 safety Leon O'Neal, who could make a big impact for the Aggies.
