Assault charge against Devonte Fields to be dismissed

Louisville Cardinals defensive end signee Devonte Fields has reached an agreement to dismiss his misdemeanor assault charge.

Fields met with prosecutors Friday and signed a memo with intent to dismiss the charge pending his completion of four anger management courses, a representative for the Tarrant County District Attorney's office confirmed to ESPN.com.

His June 17 trial date has been canceled, and Fields plans to finish his courses on June 24. The No. 2-rated junior college recruit had been charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member, a Class A misdemeanor, after allegedly hitting an ex-girlfriend.

That incident led to Fields' dismissal from TCU, where he was the Big 12's Defensive Player of the Year in 2012. He will enroll at Louisville in July after spending a year at Trinity Valley Community College.
