RIYADH, Saudi Arabia -- Oleksandr Uysk left no doubt on Saturday: He's the best current heavyweight in the world.
There's no debate after a second consecutive close but clear decision victory over former champion Tyson Fury, an all-time great himself.
Ukraine's Usyk also owns a ninth-round KO win over ESPN's No. 3 heavyweight, Daniel Dubois (who called for a rematch of their August 2023 meeting), and a pair of decision wins over No. 4 Anthony Joshua, another ex-champion.
Joseph Parker, ranked No. 4, is also a former heavyweight titleholder. If he can defeat Dubois on Feb. 22 in Riyadh to claim the IBF title that Usyk vacated earlier this year, that would be the natural next fight to make for Usyk.
The 37-year-old is cleaning out boxing's glamour division like he did at cruiserweight, where he also reigned as undisputed champion.
And while Usyk didn't knock down Fury or appear on the verge of stopping him like he did in May, Usyk said this fight was easier. He was right. He found even more success during the second half of the rematch, winning five of the last seven rounds on all three scorecards.
The first bout was a split decision, but this time around, Usyk won via the same score on all three cards: 116-112.
Fury proved in another closely contested affair, with many difficult-to-score rounds, that he's undoubtedly still the world's second-best heavyweight.
At 36, Fury proved there's plenty left in the tank. He would be heavily favored to defeat any heavyweight in the world. Just not Usyk.
ESPN's divisional boxing rankings highlight the best in the sport in every weight class. Rankings will change based on recent results and performances. Fighters who have announced they are moving to a different weight class will be ranked in that new division, if warranted, only once they fight in that weight class. Fighters who currently own titles in two divisions can be ranked in both.
Fighters who haven't competed in the past 12 months -- and don't have a fight scheduled -- will be dropped from the rankings until they fight again. Any fighter who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to re-enter the rankings after his next bout.
