Mikaela Mayer became a two-division champion following her majority-decision victory over Sandy Ryan at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York on Friday.
Mayer (20-2, 5 KOs) won by scorecards of 97-93, 96-94 and 95-95 to capture the WBO welterweight title. Mayer is a former IBF and WBO junior lightweight champion who also held the WBC interim lightweight title.
With the victory, Mayer moves up three spots to No. 2, while Ryan falls to No. 3 in the 147-pound division.
"I want to finish what I started and go undisputed," Mayer said after the fight. "I came very close at lightweight. But my body outgrew that weight. I'm comfortable now. I feel like I'm stronger than ever. I'm still in my prime, as you can see. So I'm coming for the other champions."
Also on Friday, in Atlanta, Georgia, Alycia Baumgardner retained her undisputed junior lightweight championship after her fight with Delfine Persoon ended in a no contest. After dropping Persoon in Round 1, Baumgardner was up 30-26 on all three scorecards ahead of Round 4, but an accidental clash of head left Persoon with a gash over her right eye, forcing the fight to be stopped.
Baumgardner returned to the No. 1 spot in the division after being removed for testing positive for a banned substance in July 2023. Persoon moves down to No. 2.
Saturday in Sheffield, England, Terri Harper defeated Rhiannon Dixon by unanimous decision to win the WBO lightweights title. The win earned Harper a belt in a third division -- she is a former junior lightweight and junior middleweight champion.
Harper enters the 135-pound rankings at No. 3 while Dixon moves down to No. 4.
Rankings will be updated every Tuesday. They'll be based on recent bouts, head-to-head competition and the quality of opponent. As with almost everything, until fighters square off against one another, there is a layer of subjectivity to it. Fighters who haven't fought in 18 months and don't have a fight scheduled will be removed from the rankings until they fight again.
