EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- If you're a New York Giants fan, turn away. You don't want to see this.

That 1-7 record at the midway point of this wreck of a season -- after a 20-13 loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon -- is a product of an offense that has perfected incompetence. They produce yards, but it's not reflective on the scoreboard.

"On offense, we've got to score more points," first-year coach Pat Shurmur said. "Until we unlock that, until we get down there and score touchdowns, then it's going to be tough sledding. So that's where it is. You can't score 13 points in any game at any level and expect to win them. We've got to unlock that; we've got to get that better. Whatever it is, we've got to get that figured out. We've got to put the ball in the end zone more often."

It's stunningly similar to last year's unit, which didn't have Saquon Barkley or Odell Beckham Jr., who was injured for most of the season. They also didn't have Shurmur, who molded Case Keenum into a stud last season, as their coach.

This shouldn't be happening with two of the league's best playmakers on the field for just about every snap. The Giants are averaging 18.8 points per game in a season when points are being scored at record levels. The Kansas City Chiefs are averaging more than 18 points per half.

Some more numbers that explain just how deep the Giants' offensive woes run:

5: Games in which the Giants have failed to score 20 or more points. There are 26 teams averaging more than 20 points. Four teams are averaging over 30 points. The Giants have topped 30 once in their past 40 games.

1: Number of touchdowns scored by the Giants on Sunday against the Redskins. It came with 17 seconds left.

14: Number of touchdowns scored by the Giants in eight games this season. Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley has surpassed that by himself.

5: Number of touchdowns the Giants have scored when trailing by two scores in the final five minutes of a game this season. That means more than 33 percent of the Giants' TDs are coming when teams generally play soft or prevent defenses.

8: Number of touchdown passes quarterback Eli Manning has thrown in eight games this season. Miami's Ryan Tannehill has thrown eight, and he has missed the Dolphins’ past three games. Twenty-two quarterbacks have 10 or more touchdown passes already season. Two quarterbacks are already over 20.

7: Number of times Manning was sacked Sunday. Six of those came on plays when the Redskins sent four or fewer rushers, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

31: Number of times Manning has been sacked this season. That's almost four per game.

62: Number of times Manning is on pace to be sacked this season. This blows away his career high of 39.

77.9: Yards the Giants are averaging rushing per game even after selecting Barkley second overall in this year's draft. That places them 31st in the NFL.

37: Number of rushing yards the Giants managed Sunday against the Redskins.

25: Completion percentage between Manning and Beckham in the red zone this season. They connected on 59 percent their first four years together, with 21 TDs and one interception.

14: Losses the Giants will finish with this season if they continue at their current pace. That would beat the record of 13, set last year.
