Officials breakdown: Pete Morelli

IRVING, Texas -- Pete Morelli will be the referee for Sunday’s wild-card game between the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions at AT&T Stadium.

It will be the second time the Cowboys have seen Morelli this year. He worked their Week 5 overtime win against the Houston Texans. Since 2010, the Cowboys are 3-0 with Morelli as the referee, but two of the games have gone to overtime and the third was decided on a last-second field goal by Dan Bailey.

The Cowboys have been penalized 23 times for 160 yards in those three games, while their opponents have been flagged 14 times for 118 yards.

Morelli’s crew worked the San Diego Chargers-Kansas City Chiefs game last week and called 18 penalties with 17 accepted for 113 yards. The Chargers were penalized 10 times for 67 yards, and the Chiefs had seven penalties for 46 yards.
