With its 2014 quarterback on board, Texas A&M turned its attention to the 2015 class at the position on Saturday.
The Aggies offered two quarterbacks in the class, Allen (Texas) High School dual-threat Kyler Murray and Stephenville (Texas) High School dual-threat Jarrett Stidham.
Murray, a 5-foot-11, 166-pound prospect, is an Aggie legacy and one many Texas A&M fans long hoped would get a scholarship offer. His father, Kevin Murray, was a star quarterback at Texas A&M in the 1980s. Kyler Murray has found quick success on the high school level, guiding Allen to the Texas Class 5A Division-I state championship in December.
On Friday, Murray acknowledged that it isn't a foregone conclusion that he'll be Aggieland-bound once the Aggies did offer. On Saturday, he acknowledged excitement about the offer.
"I'm definitely excited about it," he said, "but I'm still going to go to the school that fits me best."
Murray's other offers are from Arizona State, Arkansas, Clemson, Ohio State and Texas Tech. He's also getting interest from Oregon and Texas, among others.
Stidham's offer came not long after Murray's on Saturday. He attended the Aggies' quarterbacks and wide receivers academy in College Station, Texas on Friday and Saturday and got a chance to work in front of head coach Kevin Sumlin and quarterbacks coach Jake Spavital.
"It was awesome," Stidham said of his visit. "A&M is a special place, and with it being in the SEC makes it that much more special. It's an awesome place that is intriguing."
Baylor and Texas Tech are the other schools that have offered the 6-3, 183-pound Stidham. The Kentucky native moved to Stephenville in 2005 and last season was a starting receiver last fall for the Yellowjackets, who went 14-1 en route to the Texas Class 3A Division-I state championship. As a quarterback, Stidham was a reserve to 2013 quarterback Tyler Jones, who signed a letter of intent with Texas State in February, but Stidham will be the starter for Stephenville this fall.
Stidham, who initially received interest from the Aggies about a month ago, has interest from Kentucky, Oregon and Texas.
