It took more than eight months after he was initially supposed to visit campus, but it was worth the wait for Oklahoma and ESPN’s No. 1-ranked wide receiver Laquon Treadwell (Crete, Ill./Crete-Monee).

Treadwell, who is No. 20 in the ESPN 150, was the top-ranked visitor at OU for the Sooners’ banquet weekend.

And with a number of OU commits in the house, it made for a great weekend even if it didn’t end with a Sooners commitment for Treadwell.

“He seemed like he was having a lot of fun,” said OU linebacker commit Jordan Evans (Norman, Okla./North). “He was interacting with everybody. He was smiling a lot. Obviously I can’t get inside his head and tell, but he looked like he was comfortable and enjoying himself.”

Treadwell was originally supposed to visit OU for the spring game but inclement weather forced him to stay home. Then he had an official visit set up in October but was forced to stay home because his high school playoff schedule conflicted with the visit.

The weather was fine. There were no more high school games. Treadwell made it and got a taste of home being hosted by redshirt freshman running back David Smith. Smith and Treadwell are both from the Chicagoland area.

As excited as Treadwell was to make the trip, Smith was, too, for finally getting a chance to host his friend, and he hopes future teammate.

Treadwell didn’t just hang out with offensive players, though, making a big connection with three-star athlete Dominique Alexander (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington).

“He was real cool. We clicked real well,” Alexander said. “We played pool and went out to eat. I didn’t try to push OU. I mean this guy gets so much attention. I just wanted him to enjoy the visit and know that this is what the future can be.”

And it’s a future even OU wide receiver commits are hoping for.

“It would be great if Quon came here and played with us,” said OU wide receiver commit Austin Bennett (Manvel, Texas/Manvel). “He’s a great player, and we could do a lot of great things together if he decides to be with OU.”

With the OU visit done, Oklahoma State is next on the agenda. There was some speculation that OSU losing former offensive coordinator Todd Monken might hurt the Cowboys’ chances but that hasn’t been the case.

Treadwell has already made an official visit to Ole Miss. While his mother made the trip to Oxford, she didn’t accompany Treadwell at OU.
