Scout's Take: CB Anthony Cook to Texas

play
Texas lands talented cornerback (1:19)

Anthony Cook, the No. 8 CB in the ESPN 300, flashes the "horns" as he commits to the University of Texas. (1:19)

ESPN 300 CB Anthony Cook has joined Texas' loaded 2018 defensive-back class. Here's what type of skills he brings to the group:

What he brings: Tall with an athletic frame and explosive skill-set. Smooth movements with the fluidity to change direction and mirror faster receivers. Quicker than fast but is a reactive defender who is quick to get in pursuit, locate the ball and close. Brings great closing ability as well as range, which makes him scheme versatile.

How he fits: Cook should provide favorable matchups given his size, athleticism and polished coverage skills. Lengthy corners with fluid transition movements are difficult to keep off the field, and Cook comes at a time when Texas needs to reload at DB. Look for an early contribution at corner or nickel.

Who he reminds us of: Carlton Davis (Auburn). Has similar length and play-speed as well as a lock-down, cover corner skill-set.
