FIBA reveals Gilas Pilipinas' final 12-man roster for Lebanon game

FIBA revealed on Thursday the Gilas Pilipinas 12-man roster ahead of the team's 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers second round match against Lebanon scheduled for early Friday morning (Manila time) in Beirut.

PBA free agent Roosevelt Adams was the last player cut.

The final 12 are:

Guards: Jordan Clarkson, Kiefer Ravena, Scottie Thompson, Chris Newsome, Bobby Ray Parks, Jr.

Wings: Jamie Malonzo, Calvin Oftana, Dwight Ramos, Thirdy Ravena

Bigs: Japeth Aguilar, Kai Sotto, Carl Tamayo

Clarkson's inclusion in the final roster was never in doubt as the Utah Jazz guard brings much-needed firepower to the Gilas lineup. But Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio cautioned against putting all of the team's hopes on one player.

"He's an NBA Sixth Man of the Year," Panlilio said. "We welcome whatever his contribution will be, but it's just two games. It's a challenge to build chemistry that fast."

Similarly, Sotto's spot on the roster was also a lock. Currently playing for the Adelaide 36ers of Australia's NBL, Sotto gives Gilas a 7-foot-3 center with experience playing against other international bigs.

"Kai has been very, very impressive," said Gilas assistant coach Tim Cone in a news release. "Maybe in the NBA level, it's a different thing. But at this level, he's a real deal. Having Kai protecting the rim for us, it's making a big, big difference."

After playing the Cedars, Gilas will fly home to take on Saudi Arabia on Monday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
