Jhaliana Guy, a recruit in the 2028 women's basketball class, has committed to Stanford, she announced Tuesday.
Guy is the first major name in her class off the recruiting board. She was named to the ESPNW freshman watchlist for the 2028 class prior to the high school season starting in November. This is also an unusually early commitment for the Stanford women's basketball program.
A 5-foot 9 guard who averaged 15.1 points per game this season at Bettendorf High School in Iowa, Guy is a dynamic ball handler and playmaker with a quick and reliable shot from long range. With her strong base and fundamental skills, she has shown to have an advanced understanding on the defensive end of the floor, as well.
Coach Kate Paye is in her first year leading the Cardinal, following the retirement of Hall of Fame coach Tara VanDerveer at the end of the 2023-24 season.
The Cardinal, who moved to the ACC this season, finished 11th in their new conference, going 8-10. They're projected to miss the NCAA tournament after 36 consecutive appearances.
Still, they have had quite the recruiting success over the years. Their 2025 signing class includes McDonald's All Americans Alex Eschmeyer (2025 ESPNW No. 31), Lara Somfai (2025 ESPNW No. 16) and Hailee Swain (2025 ESPNW No. 9).
"I chose Stanford because I want to be the best student possible while playing the game I love at a high level," Guy told ESPN. "Since my first visit, I knew they were going to be my top school. I crave winning as much as I care about being a great student.
"Having the opportunity to be constantly surrounded by success will only push me to be an even greater version of myself. Stanford is all around a winning school in all aspects within sports. There is a wall on campus that displays all the national championships they have won and it left an enduring impact on me. I want to be a part of winning another one with Coach Paye."
Guy is planning to transfer to Clinton High School in her hometown of Clinton, Iowa, next season. She will play her club ball for the Mac Irvin Fire club out of Chicago on the Select 40 circuit in the Power 24 division. The team will play in Dallas during the April NCAA live period, in Indianapolis for the Prime Event and in Ohio and Pennsylvania for the July recruiting period.
