North Carolina women's basketball star Deja Kelly has entered her name into the transfer portal, a source told ESPN Tuesday.
It is on the table for her to return to UNC, the source said, but she will also explore other schools.
Kelly, a 5-foot-8 senior guard from Duncanville, Texas, has a fifth and final season of collegiate eligibility remaining, as the NCAA granted student athletes a "freebie" season during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was also eligible to depart for the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Kelly has averaged 15.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game during her career in Chapel Hill, where she's started all four years and led the Tar Heels in scoring the last three. She is eighth on the all-time scoring list at UNC with 1,851 career points.
Kelly has also established herself as a standout in the NIL (name, image and likeness) space, boasting deals with Tommy Hilfiger, Cros, Beats by Dre and more.
The Tar Heels went 20-13 this season before falling to eventual national champion South Carolina in the second round. Kelly helped UNC reach the Sweet 16 in 2022.
Kelly could be the sixth player to depart North Carolina this offseason, with Paulina Paris already committing to Arizona while Alexandra Zelaya, Anya Poole, Teonni Key and RyLee Grays have all entered the portal.
