Mir McLean becomes second UConn women's basketball player to transfer this season

UConn sophomore forward Mir McLean is transferring, coach Geno Auriemma announced Monday.

McLean is the second Huskies player to leave this season; guard Saylor Poffenbarger transferred to Arkansas in November. UConn also currently has four players out with injuries: guards Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd and Nika Muhl and forward Aubrey Griffin.

That leaves the Huskies currently with eight available players. UConn, which lost to Georgia Tech on Thursday, dropped to No. 7 in the Associated Press poll Monday. The Huskies next play Sunday vs. No. 6 Louisville.

The 5-foot-11 McLean played in 24 games as a freshman at UConn, averaging 2.8 points and 2.1 rebounds. This season, though, she appeared in just three games and had not scored.

"Mir is extremely smart and athletic and she has a lot of potential," Auriemma said. "We wish Mir and her family the best as she continues her collegiate career."
