Connecticut Sun's Jonquel Jones will miss most of June to play in FIBA European women's basketball championship

Jonquel Jones, one of the leading candidates for WNBA MVP, will be away from the Connecticut Sun most of June.

Jones will compete for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the FIBA European women's basketball championship, the Sun announced Sunday. She is averaging a double-double this season, leads the league in rebounding (10.4 RPG) and ranks fifth in points per game (21.6).

The tournament, commonly known as EuroBasket, runs June 17-27, and will be played in France and Spain.

Connecticut (8-2) has been one of the best teams in the league this season. Jones' absence will be a hard one to fill as she leads the team in scoring and rebounding.

Jones will miss four Sun games to start, and might be absent for two more on June 27 and June 29, depending how far Bosnia and Herzegovina advances.
