Dynamo Kiev qualified from Europa League Group J thanks to a 2-0 victory over Rio Ave on Thursday.Jeremain Lens opened the scoring in the 53rd minute for the Ukrainian side before Miguel Veloso's header with just over 10 minutes remaining ensured Dynamo would not relinquish top spot.The win put Serhiy Rebrov's side clear on 12 points after their win over already-eliminated Rio Ave.AaB defeated Steaua Bucharest 1-0 in the other group game to go second with nine points, ahead of the Romanians who have seven with one more game to play.Dynamo dominated possession but the game started in a very open fashion, with shots flashing wide at both ends.Rio Ave goalkeeper Ederson Moraes was the busiest of the two keepers, and made early saves to deny a low strike from Younes Belhanda and Domagoj Vida.Dynamo keeper Olexandr Shovkovskiy was not a bystander, though, as he tipped Ahmed Koka's curling strike from 18 yards round the post in the 13th minute and saved Emmanuel Boateng's header shortly after.Ederson made a fantastic stop with his legs to deny Artem Kravets' strike from inside the box in the 20th minute and kept the striker at bay again shortly afterwards with a top class save from a close range volley.Chances continued through the half but the teams went into the break deadlocked at 0-0.Lens finally made the breakthrough early in the second half when he ripped apart the Rio Ave defence to send a curling strike into the net, with help from a slight deflection from Roderick.Dynamo claimed an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 78th minute when Andriy Yarmolenko delivered a great cross into the penalty area, where substitute Veloso headed past Ederson from close range.ends

AaB 1-0 Rio Ave

Danish champions AaB are up and running in Europe Leaue Group J after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Portuguese Cup runners-up Rio Ave. After a goalless first half at the Nordjyske Arena, AaB top scorer Nicklas Helenius nodded his side in front from close range almost immediately after the break.The win sees AaB move up to third in the group while Europa League debutants Rio Ave are still waiting for their first point. Keen to make amends for their record 6-0 defeat to Steaua Bucharest two weeks ago, the Danes started brightly but squandered a number of early chances.They were almost punished on the half-hour mark when Rio Ave top scorer Diego Lopes drilled in a free-kick from 20 yards which Carsten Christensen tipped around the post. The AaB keeper was standing in for suspended first-choice stopper Nicolai Larsen who was sent off against Steaua. Helenius caught the visitors by surprise only a minute into the second half, rising to head home Donny Gorter's pinpoint cross. It was the Denmark international's fourth goal since returning to AaB on loan from Aston Villa in July. Rio Ave embarked on a search for an equaliser and Ahmed Koka almost levelled from the bench, blasting wide from outside the box two minutes after replacing Pedro Moreira. The visitors maintained the pressure and Ricardo Tarantini made a vain appeal for a penalty in stoppage time as AaB clung on to all three points. ends
