      Southend secure third win in eight days to sink Bradford

      Two goals in six second-half minutes earned Southend a 2-0 win at Bradford.It was their third win in eight days and ended Bradford's four-match unbeaten run.The Bantams who lost striker Kai Bruenker to injury in the 14th minute, came closest to scoring in a scrappy first half when goalkeeper Mark Oxley dived full-length to turn away Callum Guy's 20-yard shot.They also came close to breaking the deadlock in the 56th minute only to be denied by Oxley, who made two superb goal-line saves after a free-kick from Tony McMahon caused problems for the visitors' defence.First, he stopped a close-range header from Timothee Dieng and then blocked substitute Dom Poleon's shot when the ball rebounded into the striker's path.Southend went in front in the 72nd minute after home goalkeeper Colin Doyle made his first serious save of the match, diving to turn San Mantom's shot away for a corner.Bradford did not properly clear the danger and, when Stephen McLaughlin returned the ball into the goalmouth, skipper John White headed the visitors into the lead.Southend went further ahead in the 78th minute following a swift breakaway after a Bradford attack broke down.Dru Yearwood raced to the edge of the home penalty area before playing the ball out to Marc-Antoine Fortune on the left and his right-foot shot hit defender Nat Knight-Percival before looping into the far corner of the net.

        Cox scores twice as Southend push Oldham close to relegation

        Oldham's relegation worries deepened as they slumped to a dismal 3-0 home defeat against Southend.The Latics were let down by woeful finishing before Simon Cox's second-half double inspired Southend to their fourth away win of the season.The Shrimpers needed just five minutes to break through as Shayon Harrison headed a corner against the post and Theo Robinson tapped in the loose ball.Oldham's Eoin Doyle could have levelled before Southend threatened again when Stephen McLaughlin forced a save from Johny Placide.The home side controlled the rest of the first half, but visiting keeper Mark Oxley did well to grab Doyle's close-range header and several more chances went begging.Southend sprung out of defence to double their lead in the 52nd minute, Cox firing in at the second attempt after his initial shot was only partially-saved by Placide.Another clinical attack made it 3-0 just four minutes later as Sam Mantom's left-wing cross gave Cox the simplest of finishes.Jason Demetriou hit the post for Southend, while Oldham's Gevaro Nepomuceno did the same in stoppage time.

          Theo Robinson nets treble as Southend maul MK Dons

          Theo Robinson bagged a hat-trick as Southend thumped relegation-threatened MK Dons 4-0 at Roots Hall.The second-from-bottom Dons are now six points from safety with three games to go and never looked like troubling the Shrimpers.Chris Powell's side opened the scoring after 23 minutes when Robinson fired home after Dons goalkeeper Wieger Sietsma had parried a powerful shot from Dru Yearwood.Robinson was celebrating again in the 31st minute when he curled home a delightful effort from the left-hand side of the penalty area.Dons striker Chucks Aneke wasted a fine chance to get his side back in the game when he fired wide of the left post from 12 yards.Southend were able to take full advantage with Stephen McLaughlin heading home a left-wing free-kick from Michael Kightly in the 62nd minute.The hosts then wrapped up the scoring in the 76th minute with Robinson powering home from close range to complete his hat-trick before Shrimpers goalkeeper Mark Oxley superbly denied Aneke and Kieran Agard at the death.

            Robinson off the mark as Oxford sink Southend

            Oxford earned a crucial three points in their bid to avoid relegation as first-half goals from James Henry and Ricardinho handed them a 2-0 victory over Southend.It was Karl Robinson's first win since taking over as U's boss.Henry fired them in front in the sixth minute with his ninth goal of the season, dribbling past two defenders and shooting low into the far corner from 16 yards with keeper Mark Oxley rooted to the spot.Ricardinho doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time when, after an 80-yard run, the Brazilian took a return pass from Jon Obika and saw his low shot deflect under the keeper and in.Oxford appealed that Ryan Ledson's header had crossed the line when it was pawed out by Oxley.Dru Yearwood shot just wide from the edge of the box for Southend and only a one-handed save by Simon Eastwood denied Anthony Wordsworth.The Shrimpers nearly pulled one back when Yearwood's fierce drive struck a post, before Eastwood saved Simon Cox's shot on the turn.
