Barcelona, Spain forward Salma Paralluelo suffers MCL injury

Barcelona and Spain forward Salma Paralluelo has suffered an injury to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her left knee, the Spanish football federation confirmed on Saturday.

The 21-year-old was withdrawn from Spain's Nations League semifinal first leg match against Sweden on Friday and has returned to Barcelona to begin rehab.

Paralleulo was forced off in the 25th minute with visible discomfort in her left knee, the same knee she suffered an ACL tear to in 2021. She was replaced by Clàudia Pina, who went on to score a brace in Spain's 4-0 triumph.

The Barça winger joins Ewa Pajor and Patri Guijarro in a worrying injury list for the Spanish Champions' already small squad.

With Pajor also out with a knee injury, that leaves Barça with just Pina and Caroline Graham Hansen as registered forwards in Pere Romeu's 20-player squad.

Spain play Sweden in the second leg of their Nations League tie on Oct. 28 in hopes to retain the trophy they won in 2024. Should they advance, they will face either Germany or France. Germany won the first leg of their tie 1-0.
