Trent Alexander-Arnold appears to be on the brink of a move to Real Madrid. A source told ESPN that Madrid are "very optimistic" of signing the Liverpool defender on a free transfer in the summer, although an agreement has yet to be reached.
If the 26-year-old does swap Anfield for the Bernabéu, he'll be following in the footsteps of Steve McManaman. The former England winger, who like Alexander-Arnold came through the Liverpool academy, left the Merseyside club on a free transfer to join Madrid in 1999. In his four years in Spain, he won two LaLiga titles and lifted two Champions Leagues.
McManaman had a simple piece of advice for Alexander-Arnold, if he does join Madrid -- learn Spanish.
