San Diego FC winger Hirving 'Chucky' Lozano suffered an injury in the first half of the his club's home opener against St. Louis City on Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium.
While running down the left wing, he appeared to pick up a non-contact lower body injury that forced him to signal for a substitution. Lozano grabbed his left hamstring before walking off the pitch in the 31st minute of the match alongside San Diego's medical team, making hand signals of a potential tear.
"It's lower body, and something we'd like to do more scans on that will obviously happen tomorrow," sporting director Tyler Heaps said after the match.
"What I can say is that he's in a positive mood now and we hope to get him back as quickly as possible."
Head coach Mikey Varas later reiterated that the team will assess Lozano first thing on Sunday morning to determine the gravity of the situation.
The injury could see Lozano kept out of Mexico's Nations League roster, as El Tricolor prepare to face Canada in the semifinal on March 20 at Sofi Stadium. Lozano was included in the team's preliminary 60-man roster.
Mexican national team head coach Javier Aguirre traveled to Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday night in hopes to watch Lozano face St. Louis and determine his future with the team.
Lozano failed to feature for Mexico during the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal series against Honduras due to an injury he suffered while playing for Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
