Liverpool are in Paris on Wednesday for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash against Paris Saint-Germain, who have been in blistering form in recent weeks. This clash pits the Premier League leaders against the Ligue 1 leaders, with both teams heavy favourites to win their respective domestic titles this season.
PSG have scored 21 goals in their last four games across all competitions, including a 7-0 second leg win over Brest in the Champions League knockout-round playoff to finish with an emphatic 10-0 win on aggregate.
Liverpool, on account of finishing top of the tournament's league phase, didn't have to play in the playoff, but have had a busy period in the Premier League in the interim having played five games in 15 days.
However, their FA Cup fourth round loss to Plymouth Argyle last month has meant that they have enjoyed a one-week break between their home game against Newcastle United and this match in Paris.
This will be the first meeting between Liverpool and PSG since they met in the group stage of the 2018-19 season, when Liverpool won 3-2 at Anfield and PSG emerged as 2-1 victors at the Parc des Princes. The winners of this two-legged tie will face either Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the quarterfinals.
