Aston Villa have announced the signing of Paris Saint-Germain forward Marco Asensio on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Sources have told ESPN that the deal does not include an option to make the move permanent.

The move offers Asensio the chance to kickstart his career after a forgettable 18-month spell in Paris, where he made 47 appearances and scored seven goals.

Asensio joined PSG in 2023 after eights years at Real Madrid and will bolster Villa's squad as they look to progress in the Champions League and secure European football for next season.

Villa's president of football operations Monchi had said Asensio fit the profile Unai Emery wanted and was a top target for the club in the transfer window.

Asensio said working with Emery was a factor in his decision to move to the Premier League.

"I'm looking forward to being able to contribute to this club, to add to this team with eagerness and with lots of excitement," he told Villa's website. "Unai is a coach that I've known for a while. He's had a great career, he's a top coach, he's been key in me being able to come here because of his idea of how he wants to play football.

"I love it, it suits me perfectly."

The 27-year-old, who has made 38 appearances for Spain, has scored two goal in 16 games for PSG this season, but Asensio has played just 18 minutes in the last eight league games for Luis Enrique's side.

Asensio is the second forward to leave PSG on loan in this window, with Randal Kolo Muani joining Juventus until the end of the season.

The Spaniard will linkup with Marcus Rashford at Villa after the Manchester United forward joined Emery's team on Sunday. Fellow attacker Donyell Malen also joined Villa earlier in the transfer window, while Jhon Durán left for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr.

Asensio won three Champions Leagues and three LaLiga titles with Madird and won the domestic double in his first season in Paris.

Villa are eighth in the Premier League table and face Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
