TRENDING RUMORS
- Saudi Pro League heavyweights Al Hilal want Liverpool's Mohamed Salah or Real Madrid's Rodrygo to replace Neymar, reports Rudy Galetti. This comes just days after Al-Za'eem head coach Jorge Jesus hinted that Neymar was on his way out of the club, with ESPN sources confirming that the 32-year-old Brazil star is in preliminary talks with three MLS sides -- including Chicago Fire FC -- over a proposed move. Salah is out of contract with Liverpool in June, while Rodrygo has been fighting for first-team minutes at Madrid since Kylian Mbappé joined the club last summer.
- Manchester United are leading rivals Manchester City in a race to sign Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes, according to Football Insider. The 22-year-old has long been seen as a priority for the Red Devils as a solution for their troublesome left-back spot, while City have earmarked Mendes as a potential cornerstone of their looming squad rebuild. Regardless, both clubs may need to continue their searches as L'Équipe says the Portugal international sees himself staying with the French capital club for the foreseeable future and wants to sign a new deal.
- Internazionale are carefully monitoring Bologna duo Sam Beukema and Santiago Castro, says Calciomercato. Juventus have previously been mentioned regarding Beukema and there is a possibility that they could make a move for the 26-year-old in the summer, while there is growing interest in Castro from elsewhere. Centre-back Beukema has been rated at €25 million, while striker Castro won't be allowed to leave the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara for less than €30m.
- Juventus' Douglas Luiz is on Manchester City's list of winter midfield targets, David Ornstein has revealed. The Premier League club are mulling over their options, having already been active in this month's window. Juve are open to letting Luiz leave on a permanent basis, although City's preference is for a short-term loan deal. The 26-year-old moved to Serie A last summer from Aston Villa, but has struggled to cement a place in Thiago Motta's starting XI.

EXPERT TAKE
ESPN's Alex Kirkland and the possibility of Real Madrid's Rodrygo heading for Saudi Arabia.
Ever since Kylian Mbappé arrived at Real Madrid, there've been doubts about Rodrygo's future at the Santiago Bernabéu. Can you really fit Mbappé, Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo into the same team? Carlo Ancelotti has tried so far this season, with mixed results. And if one of the four attack-minded players drops out, it's inevitably Rodrygo. Still, he's played a respectable 1051 minutes -- in 12 starts and four substitute appearances -- in LaLiga this season, scoring five goals.
But Rodrygo's problem at Madrid isn't just getting into the team, it's playing where he's most effective. He's comfortable playing on the left, but Vinicius and Mbappé have that covered. In the middle, those two take precedence, as well. That leaves the right wing, which limits Rodrygo's effectiveness.
Rodrygo is still just 24, and there's a feeling that, with so much natural talent, there's a player there ready to become a genuine superstar, if he's given more responsibility and becomes the central figure in a team's attack, rather than a supporting player. But with so much elite competition, that's unlikely to be at Madrid.
The Premier League has always felt the only plausible destination if the Brazil international were to depart the Bernabéu, and Al Hilal might seem like a backwards step at this stage in his career. But teammate Vinicius' flirtation with Saudi interest last summer -- which is likely to be revived this year - shows that perhaps that's an outdated point of view.
