Former Barcelona head coach Quique Setién has said he would be keen to coach in Major League Soccer in the future.

Setién, 66, has been without a club since leaving Villarreal in September 2023.

"I would like to [join MLS]. I had that aspiration as a player, but I finished my career very late. I was 38 years old and it was not a plan, nor did any opportunity come up," Setién told ESPN.

"I looked for it but it did not come up. It is a country that has I've always been attracted to."

Setién, who played for Racing Santander and Atletico Madrid, has coached Real Betis, Villarreal and Barça among other clubs in Spain.

He said the development of young players is one of the keys to the growth of North American football.

"There is a facet that still needs to be developed, especially at the grassroots and with young players," Setién said.

"I think I would fit in phenomenally there. It would be an extraordinary experience to train and compete there. I think I can help many youngsters who are starting out and that any detail can help them improve."
