Victor Osimhen and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang extended their goalscoring runs at the weekend as their respective clubs, Napoli and Barcelona, maintained their strong form, while Taiwo Awoniyi was also on the scoresheet in the German Bundesliga.
In the Premier League, Thomas Partey was among the goals as Arsenal tightened their grip on the top four but Mohamed Salah's latest league strike was overshadowed by a foot injury as Liverpool defeated Brighton & Hove Albion.
Aubameyang's start to life at Barcelona is surely going better than any but the most optimistic of the Gabon striker's fans could have anticipated in light of the miserable end to his time at Arsenal and the health concerns that accompanied his disastrous stint at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
The striker's goal against Osasuna on Sunday took his tally for the Catalan giants to six goals in his past six matches -- and six in nine overall since signing from Arsenal.
He missed the club record held by Samuel Eto'o and Zlatan Ibrahimovic of scoring five goals in his first five league games for Barca, but his return of five goals in his first six LaLiga outings is the third best for the club this century.
Arsenal fan and UK TV personality Piers Morgan took to Twitter after Auba's latest strike to celebrate the striker's form and question why Gunners supporters had been so willing to see him depart the Emirates Stadium earlier this year, prompting a magnanimous response from the forward.

Aubameyang's fine form and the 4-0 victory against Osasuna highlight Barcelona's revival under Xavi but they remain 15 points behind LaLiga leaders Real Madrid having played 27 matches, one fewer than their biggest rivals.
In Italy and Germany, Nigeria's Osimhen and Awoniyi were on the scoresheet for Napoli and Union Berlin respectively.
Osimhen netted a goal in each half as Napoli downed Hellas Verona 2-1, opening the scoring with a 14th-minute header before extending the Partenopei's advantage 20 minutes from time with a delightful finish from Giovanni Di Lorenzo's pass.
Osimhen celebrated his second goal with the Napoli fans when he grabbed hold of a pitchside camera and took photographs of the visiting supporters enjoying the moment as the Gli Azzurri boosted their title aspirations.
"This is a step toward achieving our objective and I believe I can do it," Osimhen said.
"[Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly] gave me the camera to take a picture of the fans who have been amazing from the blast of the whistle to the very end.
"I think they deserved to get a shot."
Beyond the goals, it was another action-packed outing for Osimhen, who received treatment for several minutes after appearing to pick up a shoulder injury following an aerial collision with Koray Gunter.
Osimhen's double took his tally to nine goals this season -- just one fewer than in the entirety of last term -- as Napoli overtook Internazionale to remain three points behind league leaders AC Milan as they hunt their first Scudetto since 1990.
Despite being overlooked for Nigeria's squad for the World Cup playoff double-header with Ghana later this month, Union Berlin's Awoniyi is the top-scoring Super Eagles player in European football this season.
The 24-year-old has been criticised amid his slowing goal rate in recent weeks, but he bagged his 11th of the campaign -- and his second in four matches -- in the 1-1 draw with VfB Stuttgart.
Awoniyi opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 41st minute to move up to seventh outright in the Bundesliga goal charts. He also created two goalscoring chances before being withdrawn with 17 minutes still to play.
Salah's 20th league goal of the season was enough to secure Liverpool all three points against Brighton at the Amex Stadium, the Egypt forward scoring from the penalty spot after Yves Bissouma's handball in the box.
The goal took the match beyond Brighton -- with Luis Diaz having earlier opened the scoring following an assist from Joel Matip -- but it came at a cost for the title-chasing Reds, with Salah withdrawn in some discomfort only four minutes later.
The Merseysiders will be boosted by Manchester City's 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Monday evening, but it remains to be seen whether they will have to contend without their talisman in Wednesday's meeting with Arsenal.
"We'll see," Klopp told BT Sports when asked about Salah's prognosis. "He thinks it's not serious but you can see when Mo's sitting down then something is not 100% right.
"I think it was the situation before when he hit the ball and got blocked; he wanted to shoot and got blocked and I think the foot got slightly overstretched. We have to see."
Salah's goal was his 158th goal contribution (goals and assists combined) for the Reds in the top flight, equalling Anfield great Robbie Fowler. Only Steven Gerrard (212 goals) has been responsible for more for the club.
The goal was Salah's 50th away from Anfield in the Premier League, from just 91 matches, and Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero alone have reached the mark in fewer matches.
Salah's excellence from the penalty spot also deserves recognition, with his goal against Brighton his 18th conversion from 20 attempts.
Only three players who have struck 20 or more penalties in the Premier League have a higher conversion rate than Salah (90% ), with only Jamie Vardy and Luka Milivojevic having scored more penalties since the Egyptian made his top-flight bow for the Reds.
Salah's agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, will be hoping the 29-year-old's latest star turn focuses the minds of the money men at Anfield whose relationship given the protracted contract negotiations.
The coming midweek meeting between the 2020 champions and Arsenal represents a stern test for Klopp's troops, with Mikel Arteta finally overseeing a renaissance of sorts in North London.
