The transfer windows in Europe's top leagues are closed, but it's never too early to look forward to January. Click here to view the latest transfers, and keep up to date with the newest gossip below.

TOP STORY: Bayern Munich go after Parrott

German giants Bayern Munich are set to make an effort to try and sign Tottenham Hotspur forward Troy Parrott, the Daily Mail reports.

The youngster made his first team debut just a few short months ago, with many fans touting him as the next great Premier League forward. However, if Bayern get their way, his development will come in the Bundesliga as opposed to in English football.

They are currently monitoring his progress and have been making a clear note of the 17-year-old's improvements since the season began.

Now that Jose Mourinho has replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, we'll see if Parrott becomes the new Marcus Rashford... or the new Federico Macheda.

LIVE BLOG

22.50 BST: Napoli have expressed their interest in Fiorentina midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli and are prioritizing his signing this summer, Football Italia cites Radio Kiss Kiss as reporting. However, La Viola have little interest in letting go of the 22-year-old who's taken Serie A by storm in his debut campaign and recently earned his first cap for Italy.

22.03 BST: Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesy is close to agreeing a new contract at the Allianz Stadium, Calciomercato cites Corriere dello Sport as reporting, with the 29-year-old ready to commit his future to the Italian champions until 2024 - while seeing his wages rise from €4m annually to €7m.

21.16 BST: AC Milan and Inter are interested in signing midfielder Granit Xhaka -- the Arsenal captain who's dramatically fallen out of favour following his tirade against Gunners fans -- in January, Football Italia cites Sky Germany as reporting. It's also said that the Swiss international's former club Borussia Monchengladbach are also interested in bringing him back to the Bundesliga, but that Xhaka is uninterested in a Gladbach homecoming.

20.29 BST: The Mail cites Gazzetta dello Sport as reporting that Olivier Giroud's contract demands may scupper his move from Chelsea to Inter Milan. The story suggests that Inter are unwilling to match the 33-year-old's €8m-a-year wages, and that they're also only interested in signing him to an 18-month contract, while the France international wants another year on top of that.

19.42 BST: While Manchester United have reportedly been optimistic of signing Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, the Manchester Evening News writes that the 22-year-old England international is considering signing a new contract with the Foxes this summer.

18.55 BST: Recent reports have suggested FC Salzburg will demand a nine-figure fee to part with 19-year-old goal-scoring prodigy Erling Haaland, but Bild reports that RB Leipzig -- who, like Salzburg, are also backed by Red Bull -- have a clause to sign the Norwegian for a paltry €30m.

18.08 BST: Jose Mourinho blew Tottenham away with his plans for the club, according to the Independent, and his presentation included his plans for recruitment. Who does the Portuguese want to bring to North London? Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes, Benfica centre-back Ruben Dias and Nemanja Matic -- the Manchester United midfielder Mourinho brought with him from Chelsea.

17.21 GMT: AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund, says Bild.

Calhanoglu, 25, signed for Milan in 2017 for €24m from Bayer Leverkusen and the Turkey international would go back to the Bundesliga if the country's main clubs were keen.

"I grew up in Germany, but I like talking to people in Italian," he said. "From a sporting point of view, of course it is a goal to play for Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund or another big German team.

"It was important that they [Bayern] looked at me. But at that time they had Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery who were guaranteed starters, who were also loved by the fans. It was difficult to say no. But if at some point in the future Bayern came back in for me, I wouldn't say no."

16.10 GMT: Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir could join Liverpool, according to his agent.

Cakir, 23, has been linked to the club as the long-term back-up to Alisson, with the 32-year-old Adrian possibly leaving Anfield in the near future.

"Liverpool are among the sides interested in Cakir and have been monitoring his progress," Engin Kirkpinar told Turkish-Football. "Trabzonspor value Cakir as being worth a minimum €20m (£17.1m) and will not sell him in January. An end of season move could, however, be on the cards."

15.24 GMT: Barcelona academy director Patrick Kluivert has been speaking about the club's chase for PSG forward Neymar and the impact it could have on 17-year-old star Ansu Fati.

"You never know, but as you've seen, it's not easy [to sign Neymar]," he told RAC1. "For two reasons: Qatar, and also the fact that if you bring in Neymar, you slow down some players that are already at the club.

"This is a decision that must be made internally. If you bring him in, he's a great player. But Ansu Fati, who plays the same role, you put the brakes on him, or other players. What do we want to do? That's what we have to ask ourselves. Do we want Neymar, do we want young players to come through, or do we want both?"

14.49 GMT: Manchester United are considering a January move for AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko after identifying the need for experienced attacking reinforcements, sources have told ESPN FC.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said earlier this month that the club will only make signings in January if they can offer long-term solutions at Old Trafford.

But sources said that, despite the recent form of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial and the emergence of 18-year-old Mason Greenwood this season, Solskjaer is determined to add a proven goalscorer during the transfer window -- and former Manchester City striker Dzeko has moved ahead of Juventus' Mario Mandzukic on United's list of targets.

14.35 GMT: Manchester United have shown interest in Sporting Kansas City's Gianluca Busio, according to ESPN sources, but they face competition from Inter Milan, says Corriere dello Sport.

In fact, the paper says that Fiorentina already bid €4m for the 17-year-old midfielder, which was rejected, and United Milan, Juventus, and Genoa are all keen.

However, Busio's father is an Inter fan and that may tip the scales in their favour.

14.04 GMT: Tottenham and new manager Jose Mourinho are trying to lure Lille sporting director Luis Campos to the club, sources have told ESPN FC.

Campos and Mourinho are close friends having worked together at Real Madrid and the Portuguese manager is very keen to hire the former Monaco sporting director at Tottenham.

After joining Monaco in 2013, Campos recruited Bernardo Silva, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Benjamin Mendy and Fabinho before selling them for large profits. He then joined Lille in 2016 and has been key in finding unknown gems including Rafael Leao, Nicolas Pepe and Zeki Celik whose arrival has coincided with the team returning to the Champions League.

13.40 GMT: Manchester United spent £80m to sign a Leicester defender in the summer (Harry Maguire) and reports in Turkey say they are now after Caglar Soyuncu during the January transfer window.

Soyuncu, 23, has impressed in the Premier League this season and has been on the radar of both Arsenal and Man City. The Turkey international would cost a reported £43m.

12.32 GMT: Real Madrid have labelled Gareth Bale's "Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order" flag celebration "a joke in very bad taste," sources at the club have told ESPN FC.

Wales captain Bale was pictured laughing and joking with teammates while posing with the fan-made banner after his country secured Euro 2020 qualification in Cardiff on Tuesday.

The image has been front page news in Madrid, where the forward has faced persistent criticism of his injury record and questioning of his commitment to Real Madrid. Now a move is surely going to happen in January.

12.04 GMT: Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has not been offered to Serie A side AC Milan, according to his agent.

Elneny, 27, is on loan at Besiktas but the Italian media has linked him with a move to Milan after he struggled in Turkey initially. However, Alan Nazmy insists there's been no agreement for the Egyptian.

"We didn't offer Elneny to any club and we don't have a partnership with the agency which the Italian media is talking about," Nazmy told Kingfut.

11.09 GMT: Barcelona are in advanced talks to extend United States youth international Konrad de la Fuente's contract with the club, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Spanish champions want to tie him down to a new deal as soon as possible with his current terms due to expire in 2020.

Konrad, 18, is currently playing for the U19s but the plan next season is to promote him to the B team, who compete in the third tier of Spanish football.

10.48 GMT: The father of prolific FC Salzburg forward Erling Haaland has said his son is keen to play in the Premier League.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Manchester United will make an enquiry over the 19-year-old's availability in January, having initially targeted a summer move.

"One day, Erling wants to play in the Premier League," Alf-Inge Haaland told Sport Bild. "I don't know when the timing will be ideal. We are ahead of our own career schedule, but it is a very tough league."

Sources also said that Barcelona would be interested in signing Haaland, but are put off by the €100m price tag which has been reported. However, Bild claim a €30m release clause will kick in for the striker in 2020.

10.14 GMT: FC Salzburg starlet Karim Adeyemi could be the replacement for Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund, according to Transfermarkt.

Adeyemi, 17, has caught the eye of Barcelona with his performances for Salzburg's feeder club FC Liefering and Germany U17s. But while Arsenal and Liverpool were interested last year, Dortmund are also keen to move for the former Bayern Munich youth product to help plug a Sancho-sized gap when the 19-year-old departs for a bigger club.

09.20 GMT: Atletico Madrid are set to sign Brazilian defensive midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in a €30m deal from Atletico Paranaense, says AS.

Guimaraes, 22, has attracted interest from Chelsea, Benfica and Porto, while he has a contract until 2023 and a reported release clause of €40m.

08.35 GMT: More from that Bayern story above, with the German club setting sights on Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson to become the successor to Manuel Neuer.

Henderson, 22, signed a new Manchester United deal in June before moving on loan to Sheffield United for the season. However, he's unlikely to usurp David De Gea anytime soon and may get a better chance of first-team football in the Bundesliga.

UPDATE: Bayern goalkeeper Christian Fruchtl, who may have something to say about replacing Neuer, has extended his Bayern contract until 2022.

08.00 GMT: Only one place to start this morning... Jose Mourinho has been appointed the new Tottenham Hotspur head coach, the club announced early on Wednesday morning.

The former Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid manager will take over at Spurs on a deal that runs until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Sources told ESPN on Tuesday that Mourinho was club's No.1 candidate after they sacked Mauricio Pochettino following a poor start to the Premier League season. Just hours later, Tottenham confirmed Mourinho as Pochettino's successor.

"In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football," Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement. "He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room."

Mourinho returns to lead the third Premier League club of his career. He won three Premier League titles (2004-05, 2005-06, 2014-15) across two stints at Chelsea. From 2016-2018, he was in charge of Manchester United, winning the 2016-17 Europa League crown.

His time at United ended in December 2018 following rising tensions at the club, which saw the team make their worst start to a league campaign after 17 games since the 1990-91 season.

PAPER TALK (by Harry Kettle)

Manchester United to trigger Bailly extension

The Sun is reporting that Manchester United may step in and trigger the contract extension of defender Eric Bailly.

The Ivory Coast international has been attempting to work his way back up to full fitness following a knee injury sustained a few months ago. While he's shown sparks of brilliance, the 25-year-old has been unable to really thrive during his spell at Old Trafford -- predominantly as a result of his injuries.

Bailly has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past few weeks, however, United plan on taking up the option in his deal to keep him on for at least another year.

Sterling to get new deal?

Raheem Sterling is set to enter into contract extension talks with Manchester City, Mirror reports.

The Englishman's current deal is believed to be worth £300,000-per-week and would take him through until 2023.

Now, however, he'll be looking for something even bigger in the midst of great speculation over his future with the Premier League champions.

Tap-ins

- A series of Serie A clubs are said to be interested in signing LAFC's Uruguayan star Brian Rodriguez, Calciomercato reports. The tricky winger has been turning plenty of heads over in MLS with Fiorentina, Roma, Torino and Sampdoria all looking into the possibility of bringing him to Italy.

- The future of Diego Laxalt at Torino will be decided by manager Walter Mazzarri, Calciomercato reports. The Uruguay international has spent the early portion of the season on loan from AC Milan, but if Torino are serious about bringing him in on a permanent basis, the fee has been set at €11.5 million.
