Montreal Impact re-signs ex-Arsenal, Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna

The Montreal Impact re-signed defender Bacary Sagna to a one-year deal, the club announced Monday.

Sagna, 35, had one goal in nine games last season after joining the team in August.

"I am very satisfied that Bacary carries on with the club," Impact coach Remi Garde said in a statement. "He played a big role in our good second half to the season in 2018 and I am sure he will once again be an important part of the Impact in 2019."

The Frenchman has played in two World Cups (2010, 2014) and was considered one of the top right-backs in the Premier League while playing for Arsenal (2007-14) and Manchester City (2014-17).

The Impact went 5-3-1 after Sagna joined the team last summer.

"I'm very happy to be back with the Impact for one more year," Sagna said in a statement. "I hope we have a good season and make it all the way."
