Manchester United are monitoring Gremio striker Everton Soares ahead of a potential move, sources have told ESPN FC.
United's South American scouts have been watching Everton, who has also been linked with Manchester City.
The 22-year-old, who can play on the left or through the middle, has broken into the Brazil squad and made his international debut as a second-half substitute for Neymar against the United States in September.
However, United face a fight to sign Everton, who is valued at around £30 million, after he signed a new contract until 2022 in August.
That contract includes a release clause just over €60m.
United, meanwhile, could lose Ander Herrera despite opening talks about a new deal at Old Trafford.
Sources have told ESPN FC that a number of clubs in Spain and Italy are prepared to offer the 29-year-old midfielder a contract in a bid to sign him for free at the end of the season.
Herrera, according to a source, would like to stay but, after finding first team opportunities limited this season, is willing to consider his options if terms cannot be agreed.
United are hopeful of tying up a deal before January, when Herrera would be allowed to negotiate with clubs outside England.
