Arsenal youngster Reiss Nelson is set to join German club Hoffenheim on loan for the season after agreeing to sign a new long-term deal with the Gunners, a source has told ESPN FC.
Nelson, 18, made his first-team breakthrough last season under Arsene Wenger but has yet to be included in any of Unai Emery's matchday squads and will seek more playing time in Germany.
The attacking midfielder is widely viewed as one of the top prospects in the Arsenal academy but has hesitated to sign a new contract until now. He has entered the final year of his current deal but is expected to agree an extension before heading to Hoffenheim, a source close to the club said.
Nelson made 15 appearances for the Gunners last season, including eight in the Europa League, but has yet to score a goal for the club.
He was named the Premier League 2 player of the year after an outstanding campaign the under-23s.
While Nelson is a more natural wide player than most of Emery's first-team squad members, he finds himself behind the likes of Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck in the fight for playing time.
