LA Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid and goalkeeper David Bingham were fined an undisclosed amount by MLS for comments they made about the officials after the team's 3-2 loss to the New York Red Bulls on April 28.
Alejandro Romero Gamarra converted a late penalty to give Jesse Marsch's visiting Red Bulls the win in a match that saw two video assistant referee calls go against the Galaxy.
Afterward, Bingham told reporters: "I think today was absolutely horrendous. You have [Zlatan Ibrahimovic], who is a half yard onside. It hits Dave [Romney] square in the back -- there's a ball mark there. They say they review it, but who's reviewing it? So you're saying that three people missed it?"
Manager Schmid was also at a loss over the use of VAR in the match, questioning why a goal by Ibrahimovic was called back for offside in the 78th minute that would have given the team the lead.
"My understanding of it is that you don't overturn it unless it's clear and unequivocal," Schmid said. "You watch Ibra's goal, which would have made it 3-2, and the linesman ends up calling offside. If you watch the replay of the linesman, he almost dropped the flag he was so nervous putting the flag up."
Meanwhile, the Galaxy are awaiting word from the league about whether or not Ibrahimovic will face a ban for slapping Montreal Impact winger Michael Petrasso in Monday's 1-0 win at Saputo Stadium.
