Werder Bremen are prepared to lose midfielder Thomas Delaney to the Premier League because sporting director Frank Baumann said it's "his dream" to play in England.
Having joined Bremen from FC Copenhagen in January 2017, Delaney has long been the target of Premier League clubs. Brighton hoped to land the Denmark international last summer but Bremen fought off offers as he remains under contract until summer 2021.
However, things could change following the World Cup in Russia this summer as Delaney hopes to attract additional Premier League clubs.
"I don't know what will be after the summer," Delaney told DeichStube. "You can't plan that in football.
"If I play a good World Cup, it will certainly increase the interest in me -- but the opposite can also happen. And if the tournament makes me a better player, and there is interest, I will try to take that chance."
And although Delaney will have three years left on his current deal, Werder will not block his move should "the fee be right in the end," Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann told Kreiszeitung.
Bremen are reportedly holding out for a fee in excess of €12 million.
"Even before he signed for us, we knew that one day he'd play in England," Baumann said. "That's his dream."
